Quickly developed into a useful novice chaser in 2020/21, winning 3 times including at Gr. 2 level. Proved he retains all his ability (on back of 20 months off) when third in Old Roan at Aintree and built on that to resume winning ways at Cheltenham (20.2f, good) 11 weeks ago. More to come.

Well served by fitting of blinkers when landing this corresponding event 12 months ago. Good fourth in Rehearsal Chase on penultimate start but disappointed subsequently taking his record of being pulled up recently to 5 from his last 7 appearances.

Useful hurdler/chaser who, in line with yard's good form, returned to something like his best to end losing run on return at Ayr (20.5f) in October. Notable mistakes didn't help when mid-field at Aintree next time and this is an even tougher assignment.

Low-mileage 9-y-o who gained a third victory over fences following second breathing op at Uttoxeter in May. Solid showing at Newbury next time but unable to build on that effort when mid-field at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) on New Year's Day. Claimer takes off a handy 5 lb today.

Classy stayer but has seen a promising career derailed by apparent physical problems, reportedly bled when pulled up in Grand National final start. Didn't see his race out when fifth on his reappearance and was found wanting again in the latter stages 8 weeks ago.

Successful sole start in points and unbeaten in four runs since sent chasing under this rider, taking a competitive race quite comfortably at Newbury (22.4f, soft) 4 weeks ago. Another 7 lb higher today but he's almost certainly not finished progressing.

Opened his account over fences in Grimthorpe Chase here last March. Proving hard to catch right though, resuming with good third at Cheltenham (26f) before disappointing at Newbury 4 weeks ago. Capable but certainly not one for maximum faith.

Winning hurdler for Kim Bailey who also won 3 times over fences last season for current yard. Good placed efforts on both starts this term and should remain competitive off this sort of mark.

Progressive stayer in 2020/21 and, after a dreadful campaign last season, has returned to form this term, producing a likeable effort behind an unexposed rival when a close second of 13 at Newbury (26f, soft) 4 weeks ago. Not dismissed.

Progressing well and made a winning return from 6 months off in 7-runner handicap at Carlisle (2½m) in October. At least as good when placed at Aintree/Musselburgh since but needs to take another step forward in this stronger contest. Headgear on.

Landed valuable 3m handicap chase at Kempton last February. Has failed to make any real impact since but the cheekpieces go back on today and he's dropped to a significantly lower mark than when placed in last 2 renewals of this race.

Forecasts

Tea For Free (3/1), Ga Law (3/1), Demachine (13/2), Mister Coffey (8/1), Cap Du Nord (17/2), Shanty Alley (10/1), Cloth Cap (10/1), Java Point (12/1), Undersupervision (14/1), Cooper's Cross (16/1), Elvis Mail (28/1), Windsor Avenue (28/1)

Verdict

Many familiar staying handicap faces on show but GA LAW has made overcoming a 20-month lay-off seem routine on both starts back this season so provided he continues to take his racing well, Jamie Snowden's charge is strongly fancied to notch a fifth career success over the larger obstacles. Tea For Free is unbeaten in all 4 starts over fences so far but he may have to settle for silver on this occasion, with Cap Du Nord and Mister Coffey another pair who merit consideration.
