Fair performer who stepped up on opening pair of efforts this year when third in a competitive big-field York handicap (11.8f) 5 days ago, staying on. Worth a second look dropping in class.

Low-mileage 4-y-o who, on the back of being gelded, ran his best race yet when second of 7 on handicap debut at Newcastle (12.5f) 17 days ago. No reason why he won't come forward from that and possible he can do better still on turf.

Ended last year on a high, landing 3 of his last 5 starts, and he clearly retains plenty of enthusiasm at the age of 9, adding to his tally at Ripon (9.7f) 3 weeks ago. Only 2 lb higher now but this his first crack at this sort of trip.

Well backed and confirmed previous promise on AW when scoring at Wolverhampton (12.2f) in March. Similar form when runner-up to an unexposed sort at Lingfield (13f) earlier this month and he's fancied to give another good account back on turf.

Improved for new yard, twice filling runner-up spot either side of success at Wolverhampton (12.2f) in April under Simon Walker. Latest form is good and well worth a look back on turf.

Fair maiden who matched previous best returning from 7 months off when fourth in a 6-runner Doncaster handicap (11.9f) 2 weeks ago, no extra final 1f. Remains unexposed at this sort of trip if that run has brought him forward.

Winless last term but he did knock on the door in handicaps at Musselburgh/over C&D from higher mark. Shaped as if better for the run when fifth of 9 on return at Thirsk (12f) 3 weeks ago and better expected here.

Fair gelding who added a pair of AW victories to his tally earlier this year. Ended time with Richard Fahey with a creditable third in a Redcar claimer (10f) last month but he does need to prove himself at this trip starting out for new yard.

C&D winner back in 2020 who ran best race for present yard when runner-up in a lady rider event at Redcar (10f) in October. Efforts either side of that not so good and interesting what the market makes of her on return (one of 3 runners from this yard).

Steadily progressive from a low base for this yard, doubling career tally at Newcastle (10f) in March prior to placed efforts in handicaps at up to 12f subsequently. No reason why he won't give another good account.

Verdict

Claims can be made for a host in a tricky opener but STUDY THE STARS has looked an improved model for George Baker, successful at Wolverhampton prior to a good second back at that venue last time. Partnered by Simon Walker again, he gets the nod to continue the good work back on turf. Menin Gate, Avarice, Dream Point and Chief Craftsman are just a handful of others to consider.
