J S Hubbuck Memorial Handicap Hurdle

Off time: 15:05 | Winning time: 5m 9.63s

Sheriff Garrett^t²⁶

Age: 8| Weight: 12-0| J: B S Hughes| T: T D Easterby| OR: 117| CD

13/2

3-time C&D winner, including this corresponding race 12 months ago. Added to his tally under a positive ride at Sedgefield in March but below par last 2 starts, so needs to bounce back.

Enfin Phil^p¹⁰¹

Age: 8| Weight: 11-11| J: Alain Cawley| T: Micky Hammond| OR: 114| D

25/1

Justified support to record a fourth success over hurdles at Sedgefield in December. Wasn't in the same form at Catterick and now back from a break.

Form: 31P415-

Ask Paddington^h¹⁶

Age: 8| Weight: 11-10| J: Peter Coleman⁽⁷⁾| T: R Menzies| OR: 113| CD

5/1

Useful handicap hurdler for Tristan Davidson, winning twice in 2020/21. However, not in anything like the same form for current yard last season, acknowledging he probably needed the run after 4 months off at Perth last time.

Form: 4P7670-

Vintage Fizz²⁸

Age: 5| Weight: 11-10| J: Charlie Hammond| T: Jedd O'Keeffe| OR: 113| D

15/8

Confirmed previous promise when off the mark in 14-runner handicap hurdle at Bangor (19.6f, good to soft, 4/1) 28 days ago, cosily. Hit with 7 lb rise but remains unexposed at this trip, so strong follow-up claims.

Form: 463R21-

Ulverston^p1³⁷

Age: 7| Weight: 11-7| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Candlish| OR: 110| D

9/2

Hinted at a revival at Bangor in March but failed to build on that at Wetherby (21.2f, soft) 37 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Cheekpieces on for 1st time.

Form: 323/545-

Animore^p³³

Age: 9| Weight: 11-4| J: C O'Farrell| T: I Jardine| OR: 107| CD

9/1

Scored over fences here in October and shaped as if better for run back over hurdles after 5 months off when sixth in 12-runner handicap at Kelso (18.1f) 33 days ago. Eased 4 lb and could step up on that.

Form: 321256-

Simply Loveleh²⁰

Age: 9| Weight: 10-11| J: Emma Smith-Chaston⁽⁵⁾| T: Paula Smith| OR: 100| D

150/1

Disappointing since scoring for Dan Skelton at Aintree a year ago. Hard to fancy.

Form: 14F864-

Hungry Tiger²¹

Age: 8| Weight: 10-10| J: Jonathon Bewley⁽³⁾| T: G Bewley| OR: 99

11/2

Off the mark in this sphere when taking 11-runner handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.2f, good) in February and good efforts at Wetherby and Carlisle subsequently. Respected.

Form: 224126-

Forecasts

Vintage Fizz (15/8), Ulverston (9/2), Ask Paddington (5/1), Hungry Tiger (11/2), Sheriff Garrett (13/2), Animore (9/1), Enfin Phil (25/1), Simply Loveleh (150/1)

VINTAGE FIZZ scored with more in hand than the bare margin implies at Bangor 4 weeks ago and looks capable of defying a 7 lb rise, especially with the prospect of more to come over this trip. Hungary Tiger is considered the main threat ahead of 3-time C&D winner Sheriff Garrett.
