Won this race off 5 lb lower 12 months ago. Arrives fit from a couple of creditable in-frame efforts on Flat and yard has been among the winners. No surprise if he makes a bold bid to defend his crown.

Rapid improver over hurdles for new yard, completing 4-timer in determined style at Bangor (19.5f) in October. Back from a couple of lesser efforts when placed at Ludlow last twice. Yard continues in very good form.

Opened account for current yard over fences at Hexham last spring and back in form over hurdles since equipped with a visor, scoring cosily at Newcastle a fortnight ago. 4 lb rise looks manageable.

Had dropped to a career-low mark and, back over hurdles, ended a long losing run when successful in conditionals handicap at Carlisle (19f) in February. Creditable third over 19.5f here since.

Fairly useful hurdle winner for Keith Dalgleish last term. This season has yet to get going (pulled up in chase/hurdle last twice) and could only consider if the market suggests a better performance is expected this time.

Both hurdle wins gained over 2½m at Sedgefield, the latter last August. Creditable second in 3m Musselburgh handicap in November. Off since a poor run over fences there the following month.

Has improved when placed in handicaps at Ludlow (21f) and Taunton (19f) in recent months. No surprise were this lightly-raced 6-y-o to have a bigger performance in him. On the shortlist.

Triple winner at Perth last summer. Recent efforts have lacked spark, including never involved over 3m at Musselburgh last week. On a good mark but could only consider if the betting speaks in her favour.

Took chase record to 0-22 when fourth at Musselburgh on New Year's Day but he did win this race off a higher mark in 2019 so is worth a market check on this first run for new trainer Lucinda Russell.

Dual winner on the Flat and looked set to open her hurdles account when falling at the final flight in a mares' handicap at Carlisle (17f) last month. Creditable second in a Doncaster juvenile 8 days ago. 8 lb out of the weights here, though.

Forecasts

Platinumcard (7/4), Groom D'Oudairies (2/1), Floating Rock (3/1), Getareason (9/2), Could Be Trouble (15/2), Skatman (8/1), Donna's Double (8/1), Castletown (14/1), Better Getalong (16/1), The Blame Game (18/1), Pammi (22/1), Oot Ma Way (25/1), Democratic Oath (28/1)

Verdict

A 4 lb rise seems unlikely to prevent a bold bid from GETAREASON given that he had a bit in hand at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. Last year's winner Floating Rock is respected on the back of a couple of decent Flat runs. Platinumcard is an obvious player if backing up from his win here on Friday.
