Profile is starting to look rather patchy, but he's capable when on-song and went down all guns blazing in 3¾m handicap chase here last month. Still, he looks vulnerable off this 2 lb higher mark.

Wasted little time over hurdles and took well to this sphere last season, winning twice. Disappointed when last seen 10 months ago (wind op since), but remains of interest.

Won twice over hurdles here last term and duly confirmed chase debut promise when landing a 4-runner novices handicap at Newcastle (23.4f). Up just 3 lb and there should be more to come.

Progressive hurdler last term and made all at Newcastle on what was effectively his chase debut in November. Latest effort was underwhelming but eased 2 lb and he's well worth another chance.

Gained first win since 2018 when arriving late on the scene to land a 6-runner C&D handicap chase on penultimate start. Struggled at Musselburgh next time, though, and others make more appeal.

Winless for best part of 2 years, but handicapper has reacted accordingly and his recent Wetherby (19.4f) near-miss was a solid effort. Possibilities if coping with this step back up in trip.

Forecasts

Omar Maretti (15/8), Marown (10/3), The Paddy Pie (9/2), Almazhar Garde (5/1), Winds Of Fire (7/1), Brian Boranha (18/1)

Verdict

While it's possible to construct cases for each member of the sextet, OMAR MARETTI is the one who stands out on account of raw potential. He made it 3-4 under Rules when opening his chase account at the second attempt at Newcastle and almost certainly has more to offer. Save for his Ayr disappointment. Marown did well over fences last term and is second choice ahead of Winds of Fire.
