Hasn't stood much racing but he's a talented former C&D winner and was better than the result on his Carlisle reappearance 29 days ago. Could make more of an impact now.

Winner of this race off the same mark 12 months ago. Ended that campaign on a downer, but tends to save his best for this time of the year and couldn't rule out.

Restricted to 3 outings spread over 3 years but he has plenty of ability and last month's Carlisle second after wind surgery was encouraging. Appeals as a likely improver in handicaps.

Fair form when reaching he frame 3 times in maiden hurdles in Ireland in the spring. Disappointed in a Hexham handicap when last seen in June but could bounce back for new yard after break. Hughes up.

Easily landed her first two handicaps in the mud at Newcastle and Wetherby in December 2019. Matched that form when third at Ayr the following March but pulled up on recent return from long absence.

Showed the odd quirk in bumpers but has got a bit better with each start over hurdles and may have more to offer now moving into a handicap company.

Going the right way over hurdles, proving suited by the step up to this trip when third of 13 on Carlisle handicap debut 39 days ago. Contender if first-time cheekpieces see him find more.

Fair form for Alistair Whillans in early-2020, including third on Kelso handicap debut. Has long absence to overcome now setting out for new yard. Betting perhaps best guide to expectations.

Showed improved form to making a winning handicap debut for new yard at Carlisle (soft) 3 weeks ago. 3 lb rise not excessive and lightly-raced provides hope for even better.

Runner-up all 3 starts in bumpers and has offered signs of encouragement over hurdles, including second in Carlisle handicap in February. Likely needed run on return. Should be sharper now.

Fair maiden on Flat and improved efforts over hurdles when 9 lengths second on 19.5f course handicap debut 13 days ago, bumping into one well ahead of its mark. Needs considering.

Good second over 19.5f here back hurdling in October but she was just over 6 lengths behind the reopposing Go Bob Go when only sixth back here since.

Forecasts

Operation Overlord (10/3), Schalke (4/1), Time Leader (6/1), Honda Fifty (8/1), Go Bob Go (17/2), Smokey The Bandit (10/1), Flood Defence (11/1), Kiss My Face (16/1), Mayo Star (20/1), Calivigny (25/1), Dr Shirocco (33/1), Theflickeringlight (40/1), Atlantic Dancer (100/1)

Verdict

OPERATION OVERLORD caught the eye when second on his Carlisle return at the end of last month and his opening mark looks workable, particularly with the prospect of more to come. Go Bob Go and Kiss My Face also fall into the lightly-raced bracket and are feared most.

  1. OPERATION OVERLORD (IRE)
  2. GO BOB GO (IRE)
  3. KISS MY FACE
