Sandown debut winner who doubled tally with helping hand from the Stewards at Carlisle (7.8f). Improved again when neck second to Desert Angel at Doncaster and 6 lb better off with that rival here.

Left debut run well behind when seeing off 6 rivals over the extended 7f at Beverley. Just failed to defy a penalty over this trip at Haydock 10 weeks later. Not taken lightly on handicap bow.

Improved form fitted with blinkers when landing 4-runner nursery at Doncaster and defied 4 lb rise when following up at Newmarket. No reason why he won't make a bold bid for the hat-trick.

Bred to be a sprinter but saw out the trip well when landing 6-runner novice at Haydock (7f, good to soft). Unsuited by sharp track at Chester since and this should play more to his strengths.

Better with each start, taking a 14-runner maiden at Pontefract (6f, heavy). Followed up at Sandown on nursery bow. shaping as if this slightly longer trip will suit. Testing conditions no issue.

Off the mark in 7f Thirsk novice and ran as well as could have been expected in valuable sales race at Doncaster 5 days later. On good mark on pick of form but was seen to maximum advantage that day.

Made third start a winning one in 7f Haydock novice in May, benefiting from the step up in trip. However, well held on nursery bow here (7f) next time after 3 months off and headgear now applied.

Progressive sort, off mark at second attempt in Beverley novice. Close second next 2 starts, including on nursery bow at Newcastle, but needs to shrug off a disappointing run at Chester.

Settled better than previously and duly improved when third in 9.9f Goodwood maiden. Could have more to offer on nursery bow with a well-run 1m likely to suit.

Verdict

Wootton Bassett colt WOOTTON'SUN has improved with each run and has the potential to improve again for this stiffer test on nursery bow, so shades the vote in a wide-open event. La Pulga is 6 lb better off for a neck defeat to Desert Angel at Doncaster, and the latter has since followed up in good style at Newmarket. Hat-trick seeking Hamaki completes the shortlist.
