Resumed progress when adding to his tally at Leicester (11.8f) on penultimate start in July, making all. However, his latest Musselburgh effort was disappointing on the back of that. Cheekpieces off.

Shed maiden tag at Thirsk (12f) this time last year and one of better efforts since when just touched off at Musselburgh (13f) in July. Never a threat at Catterick 2 weeks ago but not ruled out.

Winless so far this year but turned in one of his better recent displays when runner-up in similar company over 1¼m at Redcar 5 days ago. Goes back up in trip now but last 5 victories have come on AW.

Fairly useful 2m winning hurdler for Richard Newland. Disappointed on 3 of his 4 starts on the Flat since joining present stable and best watched at present.

Off the mark at fifteenth attempt here (10.2f, soft) in May and good placed efforts next 2 starts. Latest run probably best excused (lost shoe in stronger company) and good showing not ruled out.

Maiden who arrives having found only one too good at Windsor (11.5f) last month. Has often failed to convince with her finishing effort but she's on a workable mark if putting it all together.

Hasn't disgraced himself this season, but at the same time he hasn't really threatened and it's been over 2 years since his latest success on the Flat.

Losing run stretches back to summer 2019 but he has stepped up with each recent run on Flat this summer, runner-up behind a subsequent winner at Wolverhampton (14f) last month. Not discounted.

4-y-o who has been kept busy this year, adding to his tally at Beverley (12f) in April. Plenty of good efforts have followed since, not seen to best effect at Catterick last time. One to consider.

Forecasts

Blistering Barney (10/3), Red Derek (4/1), Mrs Meader (4/1), Percy Prosecco (5/1), Daawy (7/1), Great Colaci (10/1), G For Gabrial (11/1), Chief Craftsman (12/1), Thorntoun Care (16/1), Nabhan (25/1), Chef De Troupe (125/1)

Verdict

A 3-time winner already this year, G FOR GABRIAL wasn't seen to best effect on his latest start at Catterick a couple of weeks back. Returned to his last winning mark, he's a largely consistent sort and it would come as no surprise to see another good showing, particularly with a likely decent gallop to aim at. Mrs Meader, Red Derek and Daawy, down in grade, complete the shortlist.

  1. G FOR GABRIAL (IRE)
  2. MRS MEADER
  3. RED DEREK
