Made it 4-5 on the AW when making successful return at Chelmsford in April. Yet to strike on turf, but fine fourth of 20 in the John Smith's Cup at York (10.2f) last time and he's a big player here.

Narrow winner of a C&D handicap off 5 lb lower on second start of last season. Has found life tougher since, though, and hopes here largely pinned on the first-time tongue strap working the oracle.

Useful handicapper who scored at Haydock (1m) in April. Wasn't beaten far when fourth off this mark at Newmarket a fortnight ago, but couldn't be sure that this stiffer test will be in his favour.

Got on top close home when landing this race in 2019. Mixed bag since, but went close in a 5-runner affair back here recently and he's versatile ground-wise, so there's cause for optimism.

Resumed winning ways when striking off 2 lb lower at Newmarket (1m) last term. However, absent since finishing down the field on return at Newbury in April and big stamina query now upped in trip.

Snapped a losing run when landing the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar in May. Not disgraced in the John Smith's Cup last time, albeit he was behind Strait of Hormuz and Dawaam on that occasion.

Notched second success of what has so far been a productive campaign at Ripon last month. Just touched off at Ayr on Monday, but needs to produce a career-best back in Class 2 company.

Enhanced good record at Ripon when scoring in good style there in May. However, beaten a long way back at that course in the race won by Baryshnikov last time.

Forecasts

Finest Sound (7/2), Dawaam (7/2), Strait Of Hormuz (4/1), Baryshnikov (9/2), Good Birthday (11/2), Spanish Archer (13/2), Harrovian (10/1), Bear Force One (10/1), Benadalid (33/1)

Verdict

Third and fourth respectively in the John Smith's Cup at York, STRAIT OF HORMUZ and Dawaam could be the pair to concentrate on. The latter didn't enjoy the best of luck on the Knavesmire and can be expected to finish closer to Strait of Hormuz here, but Jedd O'Keeffe's charge also did well under the circumstances that day and is taken to confirm his superiority. Spanish Archer is best of the rest.

  1. STRAIT OF HORMUZ (IRE)
  2. DAWAAM (USA)
  3. SPANISH ARCHER (FR)
