Won the Celebration Mile over C&D in 2020 and as good as ever this term, following up a listed win at Windsor with a narrow second to Tilsit in the Summer Mile at Ascot. Stiff task at this level.

Has raised his game again this term, notably landing the Group 2 Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud in May. Just second in a pair of Group 3s subsequently though, and likely to come up short at this level.

Placed 4 times at the top level last year and again when chasing home Palace Pier in the Queen Anne. Should be suited by this course placing more emphasis on speed and entitled to respect.

Tough prominent runner who won the Breeders’ Cup Mile last year and back to his best when landing 7f Group 2 at the Curragh a fortnight ago, readily making all. Should be bang there for a long way.

Smart 3-y-o who bounced back to winning ways in thin listed race at York last month. Well held behind Tilsit in the Summer Mile next time though, and up against it here.

Edged out by the classy Skalleti in a Group 1 in France before resuming winning ways in the Summer Mile at Ascot from Century Dream. Won C&D Group 3 at this meeting last year and he's no back number.

Looks set to make up into the top 3-y-o miler having taken the 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace (impressive, widest winning margin in the last 30 years). Hard to beat.

Likeable filly who has continued to progress, landing another Group 1 when seeing off Snow Lantern in the Coronation. That rival got her revenge in the Falmouth but she should give it a good go again.

Has taken off at the top level of late, second in the Coronation then reversing that form with Alcohol Free with an impressive victory in the Falmouth. There is more to come from her.

Forecasts

Poetic Flare (11/8), Alcohol Free (7/2), Snow Lantern (6/1), Lope Y Fernandez (11/1), Tilsit (11/1), Century Dream (14/1), Duhail (16/1), Order Of Australia (18/1), Battleground (20/1), Chindit (25/1), Space Traveller (125/1)

Verdict

POETIC FLARE has thrived on his racing, impressing with how he put things to bed in the St James’s Palace. On that form he’ll be hard to beat. The presence of Falmouth-winner Snow Lantern, diverted from the Nassau, adds some real spice to things. Tilsit, a winner over C&D at the meeting last year, looks the most interesting of the older brigade.

  1. POETIC FLARE (IRE)
  2. SNOW LANTERN
  3. TILSIT (USA)
