Debut winner here last September and good third in 1m York nursery on final 2-y-o start. Possible excuses on return and much better when tenth of 17 in Royal Ascot handicap. This less competitive.

Runner-up at Doncaster sole 2-y-o start and duly went one better when landing a Windsor maiden by 8 lengths on return. Well held up in grade both starts since, albeit on soft ground. Still early days.

Showed improved form when off the mark in novice at Ripon 7 weeks ago, just holding on. Bred to be smart and should progress further off what looks a fair opening mark.

Fairly-useful performer who got off the mark at sixth attempt in maiden at Windsor (8.1f, soft, 11/4). However, well held on handicap bow at York 11 days ago and now steps up in trip.

Confirmed debut promise when landing odds in novice at Windsor on return and creditable second to a potentially useful sort under a penalty at Kempton. Opening mark demands a bit more.

Promise sole 2-y-o start and matched his Nottingham reappearance when third of 11 on handicap debut at Chester (10.3f) 53 days ago, again looking a little hesitant under pressure. More needed.

Kept very good company as a 2-y-o (fifth in Coventry Stakes) and not disgraced all 3 starts this season, but others look better treated. Up in trip.

Successful return in a 7f Chelmsford maiden in April. Mixed results in handicaps since but shaped quite well on first try over this sort of trip when third at Haydock latest.

Forecasts

Just Fine (11/4), Sea Sylph (3/1), Stay Well (4/1), Barn Owl (9/2), Buxted Too (10/1), Remedium (12/1), Lexington Knight (18/1), Painless Potter (28/1)

Verdict

BARN OWL is bred to be smart and appeals as the one with the most potential starting off in handicaps off what looks a fair mark. Just Fine took a step back in the right direction at Royal Ascot and the drop back in trip should be in his favour, while Stay Well could bounce back returned to a better surface.

  1. BARN OWL
  2. JUST FINE (IRE)
  3. STAY WELL
