Looked useful when overcoming greenness to make a winning debut at Nottingham (6f, soft) in May. However, he was subsequently turned over when odds on for a Goodwood novice and now looks vulnerable.

Green and never on terms in 6.5f Newbury novice on debut last month. Should do better in time, but others boast more pressing claims here.

Foaled January 18. 75,000 gns yearling. Dam, 1¼m winner, half-sister to classy performers Mogul and Japan. Yard saddled the winner of this race in 2020 and he's one to note in the betting.

Promising fourth on debut and subsequently bumped into an above-average sort at Doncaster (7f, good), finishing 3¾ lengths ahead of third-placed Atrium. Remains with potential and he's a big player.

Performed above market expectations when third behind rivals that had the benefit of experience at Newcastle (6f). Extra furlong here will be in his favour and improvement is on the cards.

Forecasts

Unspoken (13/8), Implore (11/4), Khanjar (5/1), Flying Secret (12/1), Atrium (16/1), Nietzsche's Star (18/1), Sir Duke (20/1), State Legend (22/1), Desert Angel (28/1), Cephalus (50/1), Haunted Dream (100/1)

Verdict

SIR DUKE doesn't hail from as fashionable a stable as many of these, but he shouldn't be underestimated on the back of a highly encouraging debut over 6f at Newcastle where he shaped as though stepping up to this trip would be very much in his favour. Implore is feared most, while newcomers Flying Secret, who represents last year's winning yard, Khanjar and Nietzsche's Star all need a close look.

  1. SIR DUKE
  2. IMPLORE
  3. FLYING SECRET
