Newton Jack11
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-7| J: Georgia Dobie(5)| T: W S Kittow| OR:  70
Career best when winning 12-runner handicap at Salisbury (7f, soft, 4/1) 11 days ago, overcoming positional bias. 4 lb rise by no means draconian and he's the one to beat.

9/1, first run since leaving Ed Walker when fifth of 7 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, good to firm) 37 days ago. Took a strong hold/hung under pressure there and caution is advised.

Temperamental sort. C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2018. Good fifth of 14 in handicap (33/1) at Carlisle (7.8f, heavy) 7 days ago. Minor place money is probably the best he can hope for.

Twenty-one runs since last win in 2017. Tenth of 12 in handicap (18/1) at Lingfield (7f, AW) 28 days ago, not much room. Conditions won't be a problem, but others are more persuasive.

6/1, respectable 3¼ lengths fifth of 12 to Newton Jack in handicap at Salisbury (7f, soft) 11 days ago, unable to sustain effort. 4 lb better off with that rival now and should be in the mix.

Improved on recent efforts to win 6-runner handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (15.8f, good to soft, 3/1) 7 days ago, driven out. However, he's 0-18 in this sphere and will probably find a few too good here.

80/1, first run since leaving W. McCreery when last of 15 in handicap at Nottingham (10.2f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Back down in trip and it's not hard to look elsewhere.

13/2, sixth of 7 in handicap at Chepstow (8.1f, good to soft) 24 days ago. Placed twice in slow-ground handicaps here last summer, but his profile is rather hit-and-miss he's still a maiden.

Forecasts

Newton Jack (4/1), Mabre (11/2), Maykir (7/1), Carp Kid (8/1), James Park Woods (8/1), Zlatan (8/1), Bucephalus (10/1), John Betjeman (12/1), Al Gaiya (12/1), Bristol Missile (14/1), Dourado (16/1), Sherwood Forrester (20/1), Laurentia (25/1), Marchetti (50/1)

Verdict

NEWTON JACK looked better than ever when scoring under similar conditions at Salisbury 11 days ago and, on that evidence, he is more than capable of coping with this 4 lb higher mark, and the return to this trip. James Park Woods was fifth in that Salisbury handicap and is entitled to finish closer to the selection on these revised terms. He is second choice ahead of Carp Kid, who goes well here.
