Put speed to good use when landing Lingfield (AW) bumper on debut in January 2020. Not disgraced in a couple of starts last season but likely vulnerable under penalty again.

€90,000 Westerner gelding. Brother to bumper winner/useful hurdler Ribble Valley, and half-brother to 3 other winners. Highly respected on debut for yard with good bumper record.

€45,000 half-brother to smart chaser Drop Out Joe. Backed and shaped better than the beaten distance on debut at Cheltenham in October, doing bit too much too soon. Wind op/tongue tied. Will improve.

£10,000 Fame And Glory gelding. Half-brother to temperamental but fairly useful hurdler/chaser Riverside City. Dam (h125) bumper/2¼m hurdle winner (stayed 2½m). Yard has had a bumper winner.

€30,000 Getaway gelding. Half-brother to Czech 11f winner Kalanisia. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3¼m) Tempest River. Makes plenty of appeal on paper for top stable.

Martaline half-brother to bumper winner/fair hurdler Aggy With It. Dam maiden half-sister to high-class hurdler (stays 3m) Agrapart. Interesting newcomer. Needs keeping a very close eye on in betting.

Forecasts

Bombs Away (15/8), Thanksforthehelp (7/2), Calidad (4/1), Clean Getaway (11/2), He's A Knowall (13/2), Presenting Pete (8/1), I Hope Star (12/1), Pass Me By (14/1), Chemical Warfare (28/1), Pollypockett (40/1), Williamwilberforce (150/1)

Verdict

CALIDAD shaped better than the result suggests when seemingly fancied for a strong Cheltenham bumper last October so might be worth siding with on his return from wind surgery. Bombs Away, Clean Getaway and Thanksforthehelp are newcomers who make plenty of paper appeal in quite an interesting race. Alan King's Presenting Pete has been placed on both starts and should also have a say.
