Irish point winner who made a successful start for this yard in 17f Sedgefield maiden hurdle last month, keeping on well. Longer trip now in his favour and ought he to go well again.

Left Newbury bumper run well behind when winning 2m Huntingdon novice on hurdle debut in October. Beaten at short odds at Stratford but back on track when second at Musselburgh (15.6f) last time.

First past post in maiden (demoted) on final start last term and gained compensation in Uttoxeter novice on return. Improved when runner-up in similar event at Doncaster last time, so well respected.

No show in a couple of bumpers and in a maiden/novice hurdle over 20.5f at Ayr early last year. Has had wind surgery. Likely up against it again.

Timeform
Placed only once from 4 outings in Irish points and watching brief advised now hurdling.

Timeform
Maiden pointer after 14 attempts. With a good stable for this belated Rules debut but probably best watched unless the betting hints otherwise.
|
Timeform
Too keen in a Musselburgh bumper in February, but was set to score comfortably on hurdling bow when falling at the last over C&D (heavy) 4 weeks ago. Should improve and ought to make amends soon.
|
Timeform
Winning pointer who showed fair form in a couple of hurdles in the autumn and a recent fifth in a jumpers' bumper at Newcastle suggests he's still in form. Will find easier opportunities, though.
|
Timeform
Just modest form in a pair of bumpers. Likely to need time and distance judging on pedigree.

£14,000 3-y-o, Arcadio gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser Misala, stayed 3m, and fair hunter chaser Excitable Island. Market should prove best guide to expectations.

Beaten narrowly in bunched finish on bumper debut at Ayr in October but well held back there the following month. Work to do on hurdles bow.
|
Timeform
Has hinted at ability in a bumper and novice hurdle in recent months, but it's likely he's more one for the longer term.

Half-brother to bumper winner Backsheesh. Placed on the first of 2 starts in points last spring. Betting perhaps best guide to expectations now hurdling.
|
Timeform
Irish point winner but well held both starts under Rules 9 months apart (bumper/novice hurdle). Has had a wind operation subsequently. Also tongue tied.

Modest form at best in 2 bumpers for Michael Herrington last season and well held in C&D novice hurdle on reappearance for new yard.

Modest form on first of 2 starts in bumpers in 2018/19. Missed following season.

Forecasts

Malpas (11/10), Prince Escalus (4/1), Pay The Piper (9/2), Ulverston (6/1), Passnotalegend (16/1), Royal Arcade (16/1), Royal Rank (25/1), Just Jerry (25/1), Pitempton Power (33/1), Whitechurch (50/1), Puppetonastring (50/1), Walk With Kings (50/1), Hallowed Ground (66/1), Abrach Road (100/1), Skipness (100/1), Cimetta (100/1)

Verdict

PAY THE PIPER is taken to make it 2 from 2 under Rules with this longer trip in his favour after scoring in a good time at Sedgefield last month. Malpas came down at the final flight with the race at his mercy on his C&D hurdling debut, so he may prove the chief threat, ahead of previous winners Ulverston and Prince Escalus.
