Off time: 13:00 | Winning time: 6m 8.65s

Republican¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 12-2| J: Brendan Powell| T: O Sherwood| OR: 121

15/8

Fairly useful 19f winner over hurdles. Ran below that level sent chasing at Ascot (18.8f) on return 15 days ago but that was a much stronger race than this, and he's bound to improve.

Form: 83126-4

Age: 8| Weight: 11-12| J: David Noonan| T: D Pipe| OR: 117WS

20/1

Made winning hurdles bow over 23f at Worcester in 2018 but well below that level next 2 starts 15 months apart. Off 8 months ahead of chase debut. Tongue strap/blinkers on for 1st time.

Form: 218/5-

Moroder²⁵²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-10| J: J McGrath| T: J W Mullins| OR: 115

4/1

Fair in bumpers and similar form over hurdles, finding some improvement when third of 19 on Warwick handicap debut (21f) on final outing in March. 4 lb higher for chase bow but still considered.

Form: 21/3423-

Grand Turina²⁴⁶

Age: 9| Weight: 11-10| J: Charlie Deutsch| T: Miss V Williams| OR: 115

10/1

Fair hurdler who posted an excellent second on only her second run over fences after 21 months off at Doncaster in February. Found less than looked likely at Uttoxeter 15 days later.

Form: 5445/25-

Pemberley²⁶¹

Age: 7| Weight: 11-8| J: Ben Jones⁽³⁾| T: Miss E C Lavelle| OR: 113

11/2

Landed 16-runner handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7) last November. Held his form well thereafter and is the type to make a chaser.

Form: 2/91743-

Kap Auteuil²⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-5| J: Joshua Moore| T: T Lawes| OR: 110

16/1

Brother to useful hurdler/high-class chaser A Plus Tard. Has shown just minor promise over hurdles but may improve now sent chasing.

Form: 2/65-97

Mister Murchan²⁴

Age: 7| Weight: 10-13| J: N F Houlihan⁽⁷⁾| T: R Rowe| OR: 104

10/3

In top form over hurdles towards the end of last term, winning at Plumpton (25f) and placed twice after. Probably needed the run at Lingfield on return and now goes chasing (Irish point winner).

Form: 42123-8

Non-Runners

Normandy Soldier²⁷⁴

Weight: 12-2| Age: 6

T: R Mitford-Slade J: M G Nolan

Forecasts

Republican (15/8), Mister Murchan (10/3), Moroder (4/1), Pemberley (11/2), Normandy Soldier (11/2), Grand Turina (10/1), Kap Auteuil (16/1), Orchard Thieves (20/1)

REPUBLICAN showed an aptitude for chasing in a much stronger race than this at Ascot 15 days ago, and is bound to improve for the experience/outing, so his claims appear to be strong. Pemberley and Normandy Soldier both appeal as the types to make better chasers and are respected.
