Progressive novice last season, winning 3 times. Fine fifth in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham (16.8f, good to soft) when last seen in March but further progress needed given his lofty mark.

In good form for new yard this summer, bagging back-to-back 21.6f handicaps at Newton Abbot. Up 6 lb for latest success and this is tougher but he's certainly not without hope.

Impressive when making winning return in this race 12 months ago. Not disgraced at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in March but current mark is probably just beyond him.

Underwent wing surgery after a below-par display at Market Rasen in July. Much more like it when fourth in a competitive handicap back there a fortnight ago and possibilities off the same mark.

Winner of first 3 starts over hurdles and lost no caste in defeat, despite surrendering his unbeaten record, when runner-up at Huntingdon (19.6f, soft) in February. May have more to offer this season.

Fairly useful front-running hurdler who won 3 times around 2m during 2018/19 campaign. However, largely disappointing last season and bit to prove on this return/debut for new yard.

Things didn't go to plan switched to fences last season and well held when blinkered for the first time (headgear retained here) back in this sphere at Uttoxeter recently.

Progressive hurdler who won first 2 starts in handicap company last season. Failed to fire at Uttoxeter (19.9f, heavy) on final run of 2019/20 campaign and this demands a clear career-best.

Wind operation followed below par run in this race last year and subsequently landed the odds in 2m maiden here and 17.7f Fontwell novice. There's probably mileage in this mark, so couldn't rule out.

Better than ever when scoring over C&D in the mud in January. However, went out like a light off this revised mark at Uttoxeter next time and likely to struggle once again.

Lightly-raced in recent years but proved that ability remains firmly intact when third in a decent contest at Kelso (20.9f, good) last month following a lengthy layoff. Shouldn't be underestimated.

Verdict

Many possibilities in a typically competitive renewal of this Grade 3 handicap. MARIO DE PAIL looked promising prior to finding the Supreme Novices' Hurdle too much at Cheltenham when last seen in March and, with improvement likely now pitched into a handicap, he could be the answer. Tea Clipper and Fix Sun are also on the shortlist.

  1. MARIO DE PAIL (FR)
  2. TEA CLIPPER (IRE)
  3. FIX SUN (FR)
