Bounced back to something like his best when fourth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. Just as good when second at the Curragh in July but ran one of this season's lesser races there last time.
Returned with an improved showing when third in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. Showed himself still in good form in the Bunbury Cup and run best excused in the International Stakes here last time.
Confirmed the promise of his Bunbury Cup run when collared only in the dying strides in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood. Shaped as if still in good form at Ripon since.
Much improved back sprinting in recent weeks, following up his Windsor with an all-the-way success at Kempton (6f) 24 days ago. 9 lb higher now but could have more to come at this trip.
Put it all together when landing the Silver Cup at Ayr on final start last term and confirmed his return to form when shaping better than the distance beaten suggests at Ripon 20 days ago.
Started 2020 in fine form, scoring on return at Newcastle in March and Newmarket in June. Found life tougher following a rise in the weights at Ripon but back on track when second over C&D last time.
Ended last season in rude health, scoring over C&D a year ago. Returned to form when second over 5f here in July but wasn't at his best back at this trip last time.
Useful handicapper who shaped encouragingly back on turf when fifth of 19 in 7f handicap at York 48 days ago, travelling strongly. Has had a wind operation (cheekpieces also refitted).
Dual 6f winner in 2018 who has made a promising start for his new yard, again shaping better than the distance beaten suggest at York (5.4f) 17 days ago. Not taken lightly.
Produced a career best back at 6f for the first time this year when winning 11-runner handicap at Windsor (6f, soft) last week. Up 5 lb but ought to go well again.
Ran another fine race in first-time cheekpieces when third in 19-runner contest at York 48 days ago, but the handicapper looks in control.
Forecasts
Jonah Jones (10/3), Rathbone (13/2), Gulliver (15/2), Golden Apollo (17/2), May Sonic (17/2), Fortamour (9/1), Spanish City (9/1), Kimifive (11/1), Equitation (12/1), Indian Creak (16/1), Equiano Springs (16/1)
MAY SONIC has relished the return to sprinting and a 9 lb rise for an all-the-way Kempton success may not be enough to prevent him from completing the hat-trick. Jonah Jones has been shaping up well and can strike when things drop right, while Spanish City is worth treating as if still in good form having been left poorly placed in the International Stakes here last time.
- MAY SONIC
- JONAH JONES (IRE)
- SPANISH CITY
