Yet to race on this surface and form has dipped in three starts this year. Still not particularly well handicapped and needs a lot to go his way.

Better record on the AW than on turf and the return to synthetics is in his favour even though he's never raced at this course before. Just 4lb above his last winning mark and no surprise if he bounces back after fading in a higher grade latest.

Another who is likely to appreciate the switch back to an artificial surface and should have at least been sharpened up by a couple of spins on turf this summer. Well enough handicapped to make onto the shortlist.

A beautifully-bred colt that cost €90,000 last year; his pedigree screams middle distance but it was a bonus that he won on the Tapeta over 7f in January. More to come over this trip and makes plenty of appeal for an in-form yard.

Went for 220,000 gns as a yearling and shown promise in each of his three starts so far; he's out of a sister to the classy Timepiece so this trip should be fine. A betting check is advised now he debuts in a handicap.

Polytrack winner (1m) last August but held in two starts over a longer trip this season. Sports a visor this time and needs to find more now switched to Tapeta. (Yard has a 16% strike-rate at this course, so another who needs to be checked out.)

Colonizep129
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: David Egan| T: J & T Gosden| OR:  79

Won a 1m2f novice stakes on the Polytrack last November but twice beaten since the return of racing; possible the fitting of cheekpieces will rev him up, though. Yard has a near 25% strike-rate here, so this fellow is a must for consideration, too.

Forecasts

Thumur (11/8), Union (4/1), Vindicate (9/2), Colonize (11/2), Landue (8/1), Amjaady (33/1), The Pinto Kid (33/1)

Verdict

A tight one to call as Colonize, Thumur and Vindicate all represent operations with a wealth of talent at their disposal. Each is respected in their own right and this looks likely to be a tactical affair. However, UNION has a lot going for him now he's being asked to tackle a new trip and he is taken to build on what have been promising efforts from him so far this season. Amjaady is well handicapped and is also a contender for place money at least.
  1. Union
  2. Colonize
  3. Amjaady
