Inched out the Hughie Morrison-trained Kipps when scoring over C&D (good to soft) in June; the handicapper has had her measure since.

Seeks the hat-trick following Class 6 1m2f wins at Lingfield (std/slow) and Beverley (good to firm); raised in grade, and probably vulnerable from the front-end off an 8lb higher mark.

Kept on (third) behind the odds-on favourite Streak Lightning in a Ripon novice (1m, good to soft) 52 days ago; his pedigree implies that this trip is within range on handicap debut; noteworthy.

Moving ever closer to shedding the maiden tag, only being caught close home by Fraternity at Ripon (1m, good) last month; has a 6lb weights rise, and an extra two furlongs to contend with.

Ran his best race to date when tackling this trip for the first time at Doncaster (good to firm) 17 days ago - kept on well to finish 2L second to Maqtal; now sits 2lb higher.

Has done the vast majority of his racing on the AW; absent since finishing last of eight in a Southwell maiden (1m) in February; others appear much more obvious.

Bounced back from a modest comeback when finishing an encouraging second (20-1) to Turntable at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) 17 days ago; stamina reserves are clearly a slight question mark - first attempt at 1m2f.

Mixed fortunes in novice/maiden contests, albeit did hint at traces of ability when fourth to Lady Sansa at Chelmsford (1m2f); Oisin Murphy takes the mount aboard this handicap debutant.

Camelot gelding; held his own (fourth) over 1m4f at Thirsk (good) on his most recent start - third-placed The Navigator a winner since; it'll come as no real surprise if he's positively involved; stablemate of Sir Charles Punch.

Didn't do himself any favours by pulling hard when a beaten favourite (well backed) in a C&D maiden 63 days ago; that said, that wasn't a bad run by any means and he's had wind surgery since; negative is the wide draw; still early days.

Couldn't build upon a respectable opening effort (sixth of 14 at Doncaster) when encountering quicker ground at Newmarket (1m4f) three weeks later; drops back in trip to 1m2f.

Vastly experienced (ten starts), showing his peak form on a soft/heavy racing surface; no match (second) for the progressive King's Charisma over C&D penultimate; ideally does need the forecast showers to materialise.

Mayson gelding (47,000gns foal); slowly away on both starts to date, and that fully explains the moderate outcomes; this half-brother to two winners (5f-1m4f) now makes the switch to handicapping.

Verdict

A nigh impossible opener. Both Abbotside (+6lb) and Zambezi Magic (+2lb) have caught the attention of the handicapper following positive displays at Ripon and Doncaster respectively. Turkestan is a noteworthy handicap newcomer for Roger Varian, while it's still early days for the wide-drawn Will Sommers. Silver Mission merits a mention, albeit his stamina reserves are questionable, and Hooroo would relish every drop of rain (showers forecast) which falls. However, the pin drops on Tim Easterby's CAMAHAWK. He wasn't disgraced at Thirsk (1m4f) latest, form boosted since (by The Navigator), so the subsequent 2lb weights ease does surprise.
  1. Camahawk
  2. Abbotside
  3. Turkestan
