Veteran chaser still capable of some sound form running off a mark 3lb higher than he won the 2019 Grand Annual off over C&D on return (second to one six years younger). Jumped well as usual, not beaten far, should still be competitive off topweight.

Front-runner (will face pace pressure), came storming back to form last year winning four handicaps at up to 18f, the last one of a 3lb lower mark. Fit from a Flat spin at Market Rasen (21.5f) last time, ran no sort of race, needs to bounce back.

Nicely backed to land a touch at Ayr (16.5f) in April 2019 (post wind op) off a 7lb lower mark before his career was interrupted by breaks/another wind op. Nearly took advantage of fall in the weights over C&D last time from the front, just beaten.

Admirable sort who has defied the handicapper on several occasions with a game attitude from the front (9-35 in chases). Best on a fast surface he's not been seen since last November, 5lb above last winning mark and may need this run.

Making up into a useful chaser despite the fact he's yet to win in this sphere producing two eye-catching efforts this season, the first over C&D. Shaped well in novice company at Newton Abbot last time (travelled well), resides on a handy mark.

Career-best posted when touching off Azzuri over C&D fit from a good run on the Flat, taking his chasing record to 2-4. Proved a major failure over hurdles last time (2-5f), went with little fluency, cheekpieces now on first time returning to fences.

Still a fairly useful chaser these days, won twice for this yard (once over hurdles in France), does have his quirks. Shaped encouragingly without his usual cheekpieces (still left off) last time at Uttoxeter, not seen to best effect, back in trip.

Forecasts

Solar Impulse (3/1), Azzuri (10/3), Tidal Watch (7/2), Croco Bay (5/1), Isaac Wonder (6/1), Adrrastos (10/1), Theflyingportrait (40/1)

Verdict

Quite a treat for a Monday afternoon and none of this septet can be totally ruled out. Croco Bay is getting close to drawing his pension but still has some zip showing he was still a competitor over C&D last time going down narrowly to a much younger model. Azzuri is very capable on his day and nearly pulled off another nicely planned gamble last time off a reduced mark reverting to front running tactics. Defeated on that occasion by Issac Wonder there shouldn’t be much between the again if Michael Scudamore’s charge can bounce back over fences. This could be run to suit the softly softly style of TIDAL WATCH who conceded first run last time but looks a likely sort back in handicap company.
  1. Tidal Watch
  2. Azzuri
  3. Croco Bay
