2-4 this season including wins on the AW at Kempton and on soft at Newmarket over 5f; nosed out of it by Blue De Vega most recently at HW (good to firm) and player again from 2lb higher.
Had been running consistently in four starts this term prior to scoring at Newmarket (5f, good to firm; 5-1) late last month; gamely holding off Han Solo Berger by a nose. Gives weight to re-opposing rival here.
Ended last season with Yarmouth win over this trip; improving in three starts back; latest being a runner-up effort at Windsor behind a progressive winner. Mark unchanged and has to be on shortlist.
First-time visor appeared to help as he narrowly won at Newbury over 6f last month; has more on his plate now from this 6lb higher mark again some in-form rivals.
Made it three on the bounce for the season when scoring at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) a fortnight ago; in higher grade under the penalty but claiming rider is flying and they aren't discounted.
Posted pleasing seconds at Chelmsford (5f, AW) and Windsor (6f, good) in June but strong in the market and ran poor race since at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) so has something to prove now.
Slade Power filly put a pair of disappointing efforts at Haydock and Doncaster behind her when 1L third of six at Sandown (5f, good to firm) recently (missed break); 5-23 strike-rate on turf and now below last win-mark; contender.
Mark is now an appealing one but form since joining Ian Williams less so, really needs to spark of the application of first-time cheekpieces if hoping to get on the board.
Four-time AW winner but 0-8 and yet to make the frame on turf; wasn't beaten far penultimate run at Chepstow (5f, good) but less promising since at York when unable to challenge from the rear and eased home.
Experienced campaigner with 5-41 record on turf and 15 more placed efforts; in decent form both starts since winning at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) in late June and could force his way into the finish.
Forecasts
Whelans Way (11/4), Daschas (9/2), Blue De Vega (13/2), Han Solo Berger (13/2), Princess Power (15/2), Bay Watch (9/1), Tabaahy (12/1), Spirited Guest (12/1), Kick On Kick On (16/1), Big Lachie (25/1)
Blue De Vega held off HAN SOLO BERGER a fortnight ago in a cracking finish. The winner can go well again but Chris Wall's charge has less miles on the clock and is proving ultra-consistent this season. Better off at the weights for a nose defeat; he may reverse the placings. Bay Watch is on a roll while Whelan's Way perked up in a visor at Newbury last time and they join Monday's Windsor runner-up Daschas on the shortlist in a competitive finale.
- Han Solo Berger
- Blue De Vega
- Daschas
