Modest form in bumpers/over hurdles in France; unusually for one coming to this yard has yet to improve in a couple of novice hurdle outings. May produce some improvement stepping into handicaps for the first time, mark looks high enough.

In good heart last year (not seen since then) gaining a "win" in a walkover before following up under a good tactical ride (made all) by Theo Gillard off 5lb lower. Shaped better than distance beaten when last seen, returns from a break, respected.

Twice a course winner; latest win here (17.2f) seeing him end a two-year losing drought off a 3lb lower mark. Two modest runs since, well beaten here over a shorter trip last time (needed run/lost shoe), needs to prove stamina for a trip like this.

Canford Thompsonp12
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: Miss Becky Smith(3)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  102
13/2
Quirky sort (often awkward to get on course/line up), hard to question his consistency when he does get started, however. Good second over 17.2f last time (clear of rest with winner), ought to be capable of getting involved if in the mood.

Black Lightningp,t241
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Tabitha Worsley(5)| T: G Howell| OR:  100| D
66/1
Winning hurdler off 6lb lower for Nick Gifford over a similar trip, went the wrong way over fences for the same yard (temperament under suspicion). Bred to be suited by staying trips, first run for new yard who are yet to have a winner.

Little Millie18
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Jonathon Bewley(3)| T: G Bewley| OR:  100
50/1
Dual winning handicap hurdler for Neil King last year off higher marks, current yard yet to find the key to her. Ought to be able to make use of a reduced mark (needed return run last time), needs to show some form before worthy of support.

Lostnfoundt19
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Craig Nichol| T: D Thompson| OR:  100
16/1
Just one novice hurdle win to her name over shorter (stays this trip), has shown some glimmers of promise for this yard. Shaped as if better for the run last time, creditable effort, steps up in trip, on a good mark if she can build on last effort.

Oksanat18
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: Jonathan England| T: S England| OR:  97| CD
8/1
C&D winner off 5lb higher, been rather below-par for the most part since, showed some promise of better to come last time at Market Rasen (23.1f). Patiently/tenderly handled on that occasion, would be no surprise to see more especially if supported.

Irish Ministert12
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-3| J: Aaron Anderson(7)| T: D Thompson| OR:  96
50/1
Looked as though he could be on the verge of an upturn in form in this sphere on the back of fair Flat run last time over 17.2f here. Failed to produce anything to look forward to (unseated at the last), unproven beyond 2m, one of the lesser lights.

Deputy Jonest19
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-1| J: R T Dunne| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  94
6/1
Yet to win over hurdles tumbling in the weights as a consequence, caught the eye at Southwell (15.8f) last time. Finished with something left (considerately handled) in midfield (just behind Lostnfound), suited by a return to this trip, shortlisted.

Really clicked on her last two start handing out double-digit beatings (13L/12L) off lowly marks running fresh both times. Raised 7lb for her last win (looks manageable) the style of her last win suggesting that she has a fair shot at the hat-trick.

Holme Abbey186
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: R D Day| T: N G Richards| OR:  92
14/1
Modest form in bumpers/novice hurdles looking as though he's been marking time until getting a mark. Looks fairly handicapped (on his bumper form at least), expected to show more (trip should suit), expectations may well be mirrored in the market.

The Black Squirrelp19
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: B S Hughes| T: H Hogarth| OR:  92
7/1
Bumper winner for Warren Greatrex, hard to say he's achieved much over hurdles although that's reflected in his lowly nark. Brough down on his return at Southwell, even a repeat of his best recent effort would see him struggle to get involved.

Forecasts

Talkingpicturestv (15/8), Deputy Jones (6/1), Canford Thompson (13/2), The Black Squirrel (7/1), Oksana (8/1), Holme Abbey (14/1), Fleur Du Seuil (14/1), Lostnfound (16/1), Wazowski (28/1), Think Ahead (28/1), Irish Minister (50/1), Little Millie (50/1), Black Lightning (66/1)

Verdict

Two of the mares in the race take the eye here with Deputy Jones expected to appreciate stepping up in trip after her recent eye catching effort at Southwell against her own sex where she was tenderly handled. However, she faces open company this time something that hasn’t fazed TALKINGPICTURESTV on her last two starts the latest being an impressive Market Rasen win where she forged looking as though a 7lb weight rise wouldn’t stop her. Canford Thompson is consistent at this level despite his quirks and should be respected and don’t be surprised to see some market confidence in either Oksana (better than finishing position last time) and Holme Abbey making his handicap debut.
  1. Talkingpicturestv
  2. Deputy Jones
  3. Canford Thompson
