Coole Well147
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: Max Kendrick(3)| T: Jamie Snowden| OR:  117
11/2
Solid citizen over obstacles recording four seconds after second wind op late last year. Dropped in grade when last seen (claiming hurdle) at Fakenham (2m), finding one to good again, gets some respite from the handicapper, may well need more.

Glan Y Gorst27
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: Aaron Anderson(7)| T: D Thompson| OR:  115| BF
8/1
Useful performer on the Flat this year recording an AW/turf hat-trick at up to 14f (not seen at his best last time out in that sphere). Yet to win over hurdles (0-10), has shown an aptitude for them, well weighted on his recent Flat form, has claims.

Authorizot22
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: Ross Turner(5)| T: O Greenall & J Guerriero| OR:  115
5/1
Ex-Irish winning novice hurdler (looked useful at one stage), rather lost his way since plummeting in the weights since joining this yard (has had a wind op). Offered a little promise of late (needs to jump better), eased a further 2lb from last run.

Xpo Universelp,t169
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-10| J: Tom Midgley(10)| T: R Menzies| OR:  115| CD
28/1
Took an age to win a race eventually bursting into life over C&D two years ago (won three times since then). Struggled off excessive marks since winning at Sedgefield (16.8f, heavy) earlier in the year, returns from a break, mark still looks stiff.
5
Horse silk
The Stewardb15
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-9| J: Callum Bewley| T: James Moffatt| OR:  114| CD
9/2
Useful Flat sort, finally scored over hurdles in a C&D handicap last year in first-time blinkers (33-1). Below-par afterwards, took a step back in the right direction on return at Uttoxeter (15.8f), needs to hurdle better to return to winning ways.
6
Horse silk
The Twislerp160
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-9| J: T Scudamore| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  114
12/1
Dual hurdles winner who ran far better than could be expected when last seen in this sphere (tougher grade/testing ground) off a 1lb higher mark. Poor on the Flat when last seen, his previous hurdling exploits make him interesting if tuned up.
7
Horse silk
Zig Zagp160
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Joe Williamson(7)| T: P A Kirby| OR:  112| CD
14/1
Easy to back when bouncing back to winning form over C&D last May (6lb higher mark). Rather moribund efforts since then, well below form all three starts earlier in the year, tongue-tie worn last two starts removed, break needs to have refreshed.

Carry On166
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-6| J: B S Hughes| T: D McCain Jnr| OR:  111| D
7/1
Won a maiden hurdle at Bangor (16.7f) this time last year, found himself too high in the weights in handicaps (has performed better than finishing position suggests). Given some respite now (down 7lb from opening mark) back from a break, one to note.
9
Horse silk
Rukwap117
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-5| J: Jonathan England| T: S England| OR:  110| CD
4/1
C&D winner (improved form) last year on softer ground than before, limited impact on the Flat of late (stiff tasks, do better in handicaps). Fit from the Flat when returning to hurdles last time (2lb higher), little more needed, cheekpieces now on.

Burdigala146
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-3| J: Alain Cawley| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  108
100/1
Lots of experience over obstacles in France (won one chase, 18.9f); yet to really show anything for this yard in two attempts separated by a 15-month break. Not given a hard time when last seen earlier in year (50-1), this run may reveal more.

Percy B Shelleyt194
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-2| J: Miss Becky Smith(3)| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  93
33/1
Flat winner in Ireland with some modest hurdling form (yet to win in this sphere, 0-12). One of two for this yard he's yet to show anything in a couple of runs for them at the start of the year, would need a market move to spark any interest.

Forecasts

Rukwa (4/1), The Steward (9/2), Authorizo (5/1), Coole Well (11/2), Carry On (7/1), Glan Y Gors (8/1), The Twisler (12/1), Zig Zag (14/1), Xpo Universel (28/1), Percy B Shelley (33/1), Burdigala (100/1)

Verdict

Nothing really stands out in this ordinary handicap hurdle where four of the protagonists are C&D winners. Of that group Rukwa in first-time cheekpieces could be the most interesting with the yard’s horses often running well at this venue, he does have race fitness on his side. Carry On deserves some consideration with his mark now easing from a yard who have had recent winners whilst Glan Y Gors will be a danger if translating his productive Flat form to this sphere. THE TWISLER is perhaps the most interesting though particularly if repeating his last hurdling run which came in a much better grade at Cheltenham, he’s still on a very workable mark.
  1. The Twisler
  2. Carry On
  3. Glan Y Gors
