Chase debut (1-2 in points), failed to justify support in a handicap hurdle (25.4f) here last time, not seen to best effect (without usual tongue-tie). Yet to win a race under Rules 0-13, may do better in this sphere, placed off higher marks in past.

Shown some fair form over hurdles without winning, ran to a similar level when making his chase debut (21.2f) here last time. Returned from a six-month break then (may have needed race), failed to carry a win threat, increased trip will suit.

Potentially well handicapped, beat all bar an unexposed rival at Southwell (24.3f) last time, ran well for a stable that has been struggling. Hasn't stood much racing, yet to win under Rules, up 4lb but still on a fair mark, has sound claims.

Twice a winner over hurdles earlier in the year at Catterick over 25.3f (handles soft ground), wasn't in the same form when last seen. Returns after an absence for his fencing debut, 2lb above his last winning hurdles mark, note a market move.

Modest form for Nigel Twiston-Davies over hurdles (give stiff opening hurdles mark) prior to running in points for this yard (won one in late-2019, pulled up last time). Make chase debut in new headgear combination, mark still looks challenging.

Not a good over fences yet as he was over hurdles but has yet to win in either discipline (0-10 under Rules). Eased in grade from when last seen in March, possible that the effects of the blinkers are now wearing off, eased a further 3lb.

Runner-up in sole Irish point-to-point start, bettered her modest hurdles form on chasing debut (showing an aptitude for the discipline). May well have been that an absence told late on at Southwell (20.4f), should do better with yard hitting form.

Winner of his only Irish point-to-point by 2L in 2018, form over hurdles has looked all about gaining a mark. Connections decline handicap hurdles and send him straight over fences, well enough handicapped (returns from a wind op), interesting.

Only hurdles win came here over 22.1f (made all, off 1lb higher) when wearing a visor looked to need the run on chase debut at Southwell (20.4f) last time. Offered little in reality (tailed off a fair way out), much more needed to play a part.

Failed to complete on his last two starts over fences with his form overall being poor in this sphere (0-5), weakening when falling five out here last time over 21.4f. Hard to fashion a case even in a fairly modest contest such as this.

Left Ian Duncan and joined this yard (makes debut for them here) having shown very little ability over obstacles. Way out of her depth when last seen at Ayr (jumped tentatively), 1lb out of the weights, hard to recommend even off a basement mark.

Shown nothing over hurdles so far finishing well beaten last time at Uttoxeter (23.3f) from 4lb out of the weights, raced freely. Now makes his chase debut (out of the weights again), from a good yard, makes little appeal on what he's shown so far.

Forecasts

Hidden Cargo (11/4), Speedy Cargo (5/1), Whateva Next (5/1), Aptly Put (8/1), Elle Est Grande (8/1), Mamoo (10/1), Short Flight (10/1), The Cattlejobber (10/1), Family Man (25/1), Ciarabella (40/1), Huccaby (50/1), Some Ambition (125/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these have something to prove over fences and with five chasing debutants it’s not an easy event to be confident about. ELLE EST GRANDE showed enough on her chasing debut over a shorter trip at Southwell to think that she would improve in the future and still resides on a good mark with the yard running into form. Hidden Cargo has to some into the argument on his second last time and with the Bowen yard having had a welcome winner on Wednesday this fragile sort may go one better. The Cattlejobber and Whateva Next both have less convictions than most in this, the former already a winner between the flags. Mamoo remains one to note for any market confidence on chase debut.
  1. Elle Est Grande
  2. The Cattlejobber
  3. Hidden Cargo
