Previous C&D winner who is having first run this summer since wind surgery. Ran exclusively at Southwell (7f/1m; standard) on all five starts this year, and didn't show a great deal behind Cape Greco when last seen. Stiff task off top-weight.
Winless in over three years (24lb below last winning mark). Offered slight encouragement on first two starts of the year and may have had excuses when upped in grade/trip at York (1m; good to firm) last week. Foolish to fully rule out.
Difficult to make a case for at present given the form he is currently in. Only beat one home in this grade at Wolverhampton (6f; standard) last week, and is subsequently easy to oppose.
Makes stable debut for new connections who are renowned for improving horses. Previous course winner could be nicely handicapped (10lb below last winning mark) if he can build upon encouraging second at Kempton (1m; standard to slow) last time.
Mark continues to dwindle but he is showing no obvious signs of taking advantage of that currently. Well-held when finishing down the field at Redcar on Monday (1m; good to firm). Stable have had just one winner from last 40 runners. Look elsewhere.
First visit to this track and will need to improve significantly upon first run in four months when only sixth at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) when last seen. Could strip fitter though and he was in good form prior to that disappointment.
Both career victories have been achieved at this track so the return to this scene is a positive. However, he really needs to get his act together after running poorly on either start this summer. Vastly more needed.
Fluffed his lines on handicap debut when only managing to beat one home at Newmarket (6f; good) on turf debut. Not worth giving up on yet though & the return to AW/step up to 7f may help.
Narrowly beaten on seasonal/stable debut on AW at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) last week. That was a notable step up on previous efforts when last seen for former yard, so every chance there is more to come from her. Interesting contender.
Not disgraced in defeat on either start this year. Only 2lb above the mark he scored off when recording a hat-trick of victories at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) just before Christmas so won't be far away if he can find something returned to 7f.
Dual C&D winner who represents a yard that have not had a winner for over a month now (65 runners/32 days). He would need to show significant improvement on his most recent effort when only eighth at Ayr (7f; good). Opposable.
In tremendous form in June and although he produced a below-par effort on his penultimate start at Kempton (1m; standard to slow), he did take a slight step back in the right direction when fourth at Wolverhampton (7f; standard) last weekend.
Not progressed from first run of the summer when not beaten far into third over this C&D. Sole career win did come at this track, but he has mostly been in poor form since. Only beat one home when 15th of 16 at Redcar (7f; good to firm) on Monday.
Record of 0-7 on AW does little to inspire confidence. He hasn't won for over two years either (14lb below last winning mark). Doesn't have much going for him and subsequently hard to enthuse over.
Forecasts
Redemptive (2/1), Thaayer (5/1), Mango Chutney (15/2), Upstaging (17/2), Cape Greco (11/1), Bugler Bob (11/1), The Game Of Life (11/1), Glory of Paris (14/1), Steal The Scene (20/1), Prophecy (25/1), Tadaawol (28/1), Custard The Dragon (40/1), Woodside Wonder (40/1), Chaplin Bay (66/1)
In an open race a few can be considered. Although he is on a long losing run, Upstaging has place claims with the slight ease in grade/return to 7f offering some hope he may be able to show a bit more. He didn't run badly on his first two starts of the year before his recent disappointment. The unexposed Prophecy is considered, as is Redemptive who showed notable improvement on his first start for George Boughey when second at Wolverhampton last week. However, the vote goes to GLORY OF PARIS who himself is making his debut for a new yard. The selection posted his best effort for some time when second last time and can build on that to go one better.
- Glory of Paris
- Redemptive
- Upstaging
