Drop back in trip looks the right move after he has been unable to progress from winning handicap debut on seasonal reappearance in June. Still 5lb above that mark but only had three starts in handicaps and the stable are in very good form.

0-10 on the turf which slightly tempers enthusiasm though he is capable on the grass. However, he is now 10lb below his last winning mark and was running well in defeat when last seen on the AW at Lingfield/Newcastle.

Still lightly raced and may strip fitter after disappointing on his return to action at Epsom (1m2f; good) in a very warm handicap. This is a notable drop in grade, and can't be discounted despite the form of the yard not being so great.

Failed to justify market support when attracting some support only to finish ninth of 11 at York (1m4f; good to soft). Claims if back to the form he showed when fourth over C&D on seasonal reappearance two starts ago.

Returned to the winners enclosure over C&D last week (his fifth course victory). 5lb penalty to carry given quick turnaround but he has won off higher in the past so can't be ruled out given tremendous form he is currently in.

Place claims on the strength of his Haydock (1m; good) second in June, but failed to back that up when last seen at Hamilton (1m; soft). Doesn't look very well treated (6lb above last winning mark) and has some questions to answer.

Posted highly respectable efforts in two of her three handicap starts, including when finding just one too good at Ascot (1m; good) recently. Step up to this trip could be the key to further improvement now tackling 1m2f for the first time.

C&D winner. Improved throughout last year and may have needed the run when down the field on seasonal debut at Newmarket (1m4f; good). Drop back in trip is probably the right move (never won over further than 1m2f).

Got off to a winning start in handicaps when upped to 1m2f for the first time at Newcastle (1m2f; standard) last time out. Only been raised 4lb for that victory. Remains unexposed at this trip and receives weight from all his rivals.

Forecasts

Ironclad (3/1), Medal Winner (10/3), Glasses Up (4/1), Master The Stars (4/1), Dark Lochnagar (10/1), Al Rasmah (10/1), Humbert (33/1), Storm Ahead (33/1), Five Helmets (50/1)

Verdict

This is a rise in grade for Glasses Up but given his fantastic record at this track & the form he is currently in, he is still likely to be involved to some degree under a penalty. It would be no surprise to see Ironclad bounce back from a below-par reappearance & this weaker race gives him the opportunity to do so. Similar comments apply to Medal Winner who is not written off yet with the return to 1m2f a positive, though he does need to show some improvement from his latest effort. The one to beat is MASTER THE STARS though who got off to a winning start in handicaps when succesful on the AW at Newcastle. He can go in again off just a 4lb higher mark.
  1. Master The Stars
  2. Medal Winner
  3. Ironclad
