C&D win last July was amongst his best off a 3lb lower mark since when he's been winless (plus had a wind op). Returned from a break in decent form over hurdles/fences, best from the front this should be run to suit (can finish weakly), sound claims.

Hurdles winner when trained in Ireland, yard generally do well with this owners transfers to their care but as yet this one has shown little in six chase starts. Mark has plummeted, well held on recent return (down another 4lb), note a market move.

Fair chaser at best as he was when winning at Musselburgh last November winning off this mark over 2m. Propensity to run poorly has resurfaced since, more miss than hit these days, comes here off a poor Flat run, one to handle with care.

Never really gone on from his Sedgefield chase win (2m, good/firm) last August off an 11lb higher mark. Had fitness on his side for his latest fencing effort (early error ruined his chance), lurks on a dangerous mark if he did put it all together.

Took an age to win over fences finally gaining a previously elusive win at his 15th attempt in this sphere at Hereford (2m), did so in good style. Ran well again on his return at Stratford, producing a sound second to a well-supported winner.

Catterick winner (2m) last January off a 5lb lower mark in a weak event, raised to a fairly stiff-mark for that win. Produced two anaemic efforts since either side off a break, well beaten by a few of these rivals last time (jumping fell apart).

Gained a previously elusive win in a change of headgear over C&D last July off a lowly mark (left clear at last) on chasing debut. Showed little after that in two autumn outings, pulled up when last seen, temperamental sort, hard to recommend.

Long-standing maiden who nearly rectified that position when returning to form from out of the blue at Bangor last time (tried to make all). Looked in control when blundering at the last (winner beaten since), remains to be seen if he can repeat.

Ran poorly on his recent return at Stratford in a similar event with his losing run for this yard continuing to grow (0-13). Well handicapped on his old form but would need to show some spark before he could bring that into play.

Agentleman19

On a long losing sequence (not unusual in this race), looked to return to form at Stratford last time (Wisecracker second), 2m1f. However there was plenty of evidence of him flattering to deceive (an old trait), likely to produce more of the same.

Fallen down the handicap and gone backwards since his handicap chase hat-trick in the first part of 2017. Hard to think he's capable of anything approaching that form now even with a basement mark to assist him.

Forecasts

Little Stevie (5/2), Wisecracker (4/1), Secret Melody (6/1), Getaway North (7/1), Agentleman (8/1), Buyer Beware (10/1), Thomas Blossom (14/1), My Renaissance (14/1), Inca Gold (28/1), Mac Cennetig (33/1), Bally Lagan (66/1)

Verdict

A low-grade affair with several who have the propensity to flatter only to deceive. Four of this field contested a similar event at Stratford recently with the previously (could still be) hard to win with Wisecracker doing best with a sound second and putting to bed, for now, doubts about his attitude. That form has been franked by the subsequent win of the fourth so that also brings Agentleman into the argument although his lack of finishing effort also leaves a question mark. There’s no guarantee that Secret Melody will reproduce his Bangor effort and C&D winner LITTLE STEVIE looks the best option with his fitness assured. Any market support for Inca Gold should be noted.
  1. Little Stevie
  2. Wisecracker
  3. Agentleman
