One of two 4yo's in the field he makes his seasonal return having been well held, always behind after being slow away in a pair if middle-distance novices last year. Back from an extended break hard to see him getting involved.

Very green and offered little on her one start for Michael Bell in a 2018 AW novice at Kempton. Much the same outcome on debut for this yard after 20 months away at Musselburgh (7.2f, good) last time, up in trip but limited appeal.

Two runs at 1m this year in minor/maiden events looking as though this trip would suit (certainly bred for longer trips). Looks to have been brought along gradually, slow to stride last time, will do better once he's handicapped.

Showed more than on debut (very green on that occasion) when switched to AW with cheekpieces on at Newcastle last time over 1m. Off the bridle a long way out but stuck on well enough, still beaten 19L into second by smart winner, plenty to find.

There were signs of a fair amount of ability on his debut in amongst a similar measure of inexperience at Windsor (8.1f, good/firm) earlier this month. Beaten just over 7L in the end, that encounter won't be lost on him, up in trip now, sound claims.

Form shown so far in three novice starts is only modest, much too free when stepped up to this trip last time (raced alone). Debut remains the pick of his efforts over 1m on the AW, needs to show he can settle better before being worthy of support.

Encouraging start to her career over C&D despite being beaten over 20L on that occasions (left the impression she could have done better/finished closer). Finished with running left (did suffer poor run), much better expected this time.

Progressing from run-to-run even if it is in a rather steady manner confirming her previous form over 1m2f at Newbury last time staying on well. Looks the sort to stay further (ran over 1m4f on debut), wide draw doesn't appear to be that helpful.

Bred to stay well, didn't quite make as much progress as expected from her AW/Lingfield 1m debut at Windsor (1m2f, good/firm) last time (may have been unsuited by track). Ran in snatches last time, worth another chance, poor draw over this trip.

Sent off a big price (100-1) on debut at Kempton (1m3f, slow) she gave the impression that she was one for the longer term when making little impact on that occasion. Pedigree makes some appeal, blinkers quickly tried fir first time.

First two starts of her career have been unimpressive and underwhelming, made little impression over C&D last time. Hard to see her getting involved, others present far more persuasive cases.

Forecasts

Naked Lass (15/8), Monash (3/1), Whisper Not (4/1), Opera Gift (5/1), Dragon Glass (6/1), Gordana (7/1), Make Some Magic (14/1), Gainsboro Grey (40/1), Sois Rebelle (66/1), Dereham (100/1), Miss Mistral (150/1), Strict Order (150/1)

Verdict

The draw often plays a part at Pontefract and a wide draw can make life difficult over 1m2f and with Naked Lass who sets the form standard drawn 12 of 12 it could make life difficult for her although this course should suit her better than Windsor last time. MONASH is therefore given the vote having shaped nicely at Windsor on debut having the look of one who had more to offer. Another fancied runner Gordana is also posted wide although she already looks to need further. Dragon Glass ran a very eye-catching race here last time when not getting the clearest of passages she has the look of one who could make a major step forward. The newcomer Opera Gift also enters the discussion.
  1. Monash
  2. Dragon Glass
  3. Naked Lass
