Smart handicapper on his day, and returned with a creditable 3L ninth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last month. Vulnerable to unexposed rivals, but can't be dismissed at this level.

Multiple 5f winner who handles slow ground and won the Listed City Walls Stakes over C&D last term. Just respectable efforts in two starts since a good return at Newmarket, but type to bounce back quickly, and merits respect.

Has won five of his 15 starts on turf, and produced a career-best effort when winning a 5f handicap last month at Newmarket by short head from Copper Knight. More to do off 5lb higher, and placed horses have rather let that form down since.

Age: 6|  Weight: 9-8| J: Rowan Scott(3)| T: Phillip Makin| OR:  101| D

Multiple winner over 5f-7f and appears to act on most ground. 5lb higher than his latest win at Doncaster last month, and has disappointed since, but easy enough to excuse latest run at Ascot last weekend, when getting very upset in the stalls.

Continued his good record when fresh, when scoring at Newmarket last month, and he matched that form when runner-up at Doncaster next time. Likely to make a bold bid from the front once more.

Beaten favourite off this mark on last two starts, but not beaten far at Doncaster on his penultimate outing, and suffered trouble in running before making late headway at Ascot last weekend. Not taken lightly.

Below form so far this season, starting off at Meydan. Showed more dash when eighth of 11 to Camacho Chief at Doncaster last time, but he needs to take a bigger step forward to get involved here.

Age: 7|  Weight: 8-11| J: G Lee| T: P T Midgley| OR:  90| D
40/1
Multiple winner over 5f (has also won over 6f), but best form all on good/good to firm ground, so recent rain a concern. Has shaped as if both runs this season have been needed, though, and handicapper has dropped him 5lb since his last start.

Multiple 5f winner on both turf/AW, the latest coming last December, when 6lb lower. Went very close on return at Haydock, but failed to match that form there last time, and needs to bounce back.

Looked as good as ever when 1½L third behind Lahore at Doncaster on his reappearance, but followed that with a listless effort at Haydock, and needs to show he can bounce back.

Twice successful at Windsor (5f-6f, gd/firm) before rounding off his juvenile campaign with a creditable fifth to Good Vibes in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes. Well below form in two runs this year, however, and best left alone for now.

Veteran whose form looked on the slide last year, and again well held on return, but fared much better when fourth of 11 behind Camacho Chief at Doncaster last time. Out of weights here, so effectively 4lb higher than for that defeat.

Placed in Super Sprint last term, and off mark at Catterick in October. Caught the eye when fifth of 21 to Art Power in Palace of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time, and handicapper kind to drop her 2lb for that effort.

Makanah (5/1), Arecibo (5/1), Danzeno (11/2), Jabbarockie (6/1), Mighty Spirit (7/1), Copper Knight (9/1), Lahore (12/1), Line Of Reason (14/1), A Momentofmadness (16/1), Orvar (18/1), Acclaim The Nation (20/1), Golden Dragon (20/1), Tanasoq (40/1), Duke Of Firenze (40/1)

Verdict

On the face of it, ARECIBO has been disappointing of late, having shared favouritism when unplaced on his last two starts, but he had valid excuses in an incident-marred race at Ascot last weekend, and he looks very fairly treated in this company. Mighty Spirit has been eased in the weights despite running the race of her life behind Art Power at Ascot, and that brings her firmly into the equation. Jabbarockie ought to get to the front early, and has run really well on both starts this season, so he mustn't be taken for granted.

  3. Jabbarockie
