Narrowly denied in bid to regain winning thread when runner-up to the hot-favourite Rayong (11/8f) at Pontefract (5f; good) last time. 3lb rise is negated by the claim of supremely talented apprentice jockey, and he should be bang there once more.

Outclassed in 'Listed' company on final start of 2019 and first start of 2020 so worth another chance as she is dropped significantly in class. Yard/jockey in great form, and she is 1-1 in handicaps. On the shortlist.

Best to put a line through final start of last year when he finished last on 'heavy' ground in a 'Listed' contest in Italy. Looked progressive prior to that and now makes handicap debut on his seasonal reappearance. Market check strongly advised.

Less exposed than some of his rivals, and had a genuine excuse when barged by one of his rivals early on when only fourth of seven at Windsor (5f; good to firm). Only had two attempts at this trip, so is worth another chance.

Yet to convince on the turf (both career victories have been achieved on the AW) so has something to prove in that respect. However, the drop back into this grade should suit after he has failed to get involved in either of his last two starts.

Sole career success came on AW and he is 0-4 overall on turf. However, he did show some promise on the grass when placed on two separate occasions last year. In good form since returning to the track last month, but career high mark demands more.

Ran well the last twice, and the soft ground may have gone against him when fifth at Haydock (5f; soft) recently. Only 1lb above last winning mark, and if he can step up marginally on his last run he should be involved.

6lb above last winning mark and failed to back up encouraging runner-up effort at Redcar (5f; good) when midfield over slightly further at Ripon (6f; good). Doesn't look one to rely on and others look more enticing.

Posted a career-best when last seen to record a first career victory on turf when always towards the business end of the race at Pontefract (5f; good). Career-high mark to defy now but could sneak into the placings.

Yet to try 5f in handicap company so is unexposed in regard to this trip. Has took advantage of declining handicap mark the last twice to run two solid races in defeat, finding just one too good on each occasion over 6f. Solid place claims again.

Not disgraced on either of his two starts since entering handicap company this season, including in this grade last time out when fifth of seven at Doncaster (5f; good). Others look more solid in this class, & this is one of his tougher assignments.

Forecasts

Clareyblue (10/3), Garsman (7/2), Chairmanic (9/2), Iva Reflection (6/1), Live In The Moment (7/1), Spirit Of The Sky (9/1), She Can Dance (11/1), Mews House (12/1), Birkenhead (16/1), Hot Affair (18/1), Infinite Grace (22/1), Dazzling Des (50/1)

Verdict

A tremendously competitive sprint handicap with Clareyblue not one to rule out despite the fact he has disappointed on each of his two starts since switched to handicaps this season. Hot Affair is one to note on handicap debut, as is She Can Dance for the same connections as she takes a significant drop in class. Michael Appleby has once again managed to yield plenty of improvement out of Garsman since he joined the yard and he has been ultra consistent of late. However, the selection is CHAIRMANIC after he made a winning handicap debut at the start of the month. He now tries 5f for the first time and is very unexposed after just four career starts.
  1. Chairmanic
  2. Garsman
  3. Clareyblue
