One of the stable stalwarts (looks better than ever this season) already posting two fine efforts; won Group 3 Chipchase Stakes 6f at Newcastle last time. Thriving, carries a 3lb penalty here, can't be ignored in current form, leading player.
Very progressive last year winning five times (three top handicaps, two Listed events at up 6f), generally makes the running. Not quite clicked as yet this season in Listed/Group 3 company, too early to write him off yet given his profile last year.
Third in this last year after causing a shock when winning the Group 3 Abernant Stakes (6f, Group 3) at 66-1. Faced some stiff tasks for the rest of 2019 (not disgraced), well below his best two starts this year, has a bit to find currently.
Showed his worth with two wins last year; best a York (7f, firm) Group 2 (made all) in August before ending his season on a downbeat note. Took a step forward last time (still very free) at Epsom (7f), move back to 6f may see him in a better light.
Top class handicapper who gained a deserved victory at Pontefract (6f, good/soft) after a sequence of fine efforts in tough handicaps. Deserves a shot at this level given his profile, should be competitive in first try at this level, respected.
Smart but rather fragile performer proved that he retained all his ability when returning from nine months off at Newcastle (6f, slow). Second to a thriving sort on that occasion he deserves a shot at this grade returning to turf, best when fresh.
2016 winner of this as a 4yo (well beaten in race last year), has been a very smart performer (winner of three Group 1's). Not disgraced in Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot (6f, good), inconsistent these days, will appreciate the ease in grade.
Added to his three 2019 wins with a career-best on return when taking a 6f Newmarket handicap off a mark of 100 (no mean feat). Ran just as well when Group 3 placed last time at Sandown (5.1f, good), despite missing break, still has a bit to find.
Struggled since finishing runner-up in 2018 2000 Guineas when a 50-1 chance (yet to add to his four 2yo/3yo wins). Only seen twice last year (below-par both times), offered little encouragement on return at Newmarket over 7f, looks a forlorn hope.
Two respectable efforts to his name this year both at Group level, fourth both times (may gave been flattered by Group 1 fourth on return). Better judged on Group 3 Coral Charge placing which would see him running with credit but not winning here.
Yet to match 11L valuable sales race demolition job at York (6f, good/firm last year in a trio of Group 1 events over 6f/1m. 2000 Guineas 1m experiment failed dismally, Commonwealth Cup 6f effort last time still leaves him with something to prove.
Useful sort as a 2yo despite not winning again after a successful juvenile debut. Found improvement to land a Windsor (6.1f, good/firm) Listed contest on return, looked a cut above the field, deserving of a chance in this higher grade, more to come.
Forecasts
Tabdeed (4/1), The Tin Man (4/1), Summerghand (6/1), Repartee (8/1), Judicial (17/2), Shine So Bright (10/1), Dakota Gold (12/1), Tinto (12/1), Mums Tipple (14/1), Tis Marvellous (16/1), Tip Two Win (50/1), Keystroke (66/1)
An interesting mix of individuals for this competitive Group 3 sprint with previous winner The Tin Man amongst the leading protagonists although as his 7th in this last year showed he can be a little inconsistent these days. Judicial now an 8yo appears to be thriving and certainly needs considering despite his penalty given his form this year. Tabdeed produced a fine performance last time but might need a little more time between his races while the likes of Dakota Gold, Tinto and Tis Marvellous all have a little to find. SUMMERGHAND has looked a little unlucky not to win more than he has but is well worth a try at this level on the back of a sound Pontefract win.
- Summerghand
- Judicial
- The Tin Man
