Failed to build on the promise of his reappearance over the same C&D (Lingfield, 1m), taking a backward step instead. Fair handicapper on the whole (slipped below his last winning mark), cheekpieces on first-time, yet to win over this far.

Dual C&D winner last year in amateur riders' handicaps when with Karen Tutty (came from well off the pace both times to score). Needed the run on stable/seasonal debut at Thirsk (1m4f, good), can start slowly, easing in the weights again.

Took advantage of a drop in the weights after nine months away to score at Pontefract (1m2f, good) taking advantage of a perfect scenario after his usual slow start. Back up the weights (never won off this mark), will need another similar set-up.

Zihaamp24

Produced some of his best form around here (three-time course winner, two C&D), latest winning effort over C&D a career-best (showed good attitude to beat Ideal Candy). Will need some good fortune to win from wide draw, hard to ignore around here.

16/5
C&D winner, generally likes to lead (has a good record at this track), proved as good as ever last time going down narrowly to a gritty Zihaam. May have done a little too much last time, will find it harder to dominate this double-figure field.

Railport Dollyh21
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-5| J: Billy Garritty(5)| T: T D Barron| OR:  66| D

Hardly going to be helped here by the widest draw of all, will find it tough to follow-up her sound effort at Doncaster (102f, good/firm) last time. Still looks on a fair mark (5lb below last winning one), needs some luck in-running to get involved.

AW winner last October over 9.5f off a 4lb lower mark she's failed to build on that success since although hasn't been disgraced. Turned in a sound enough effort last time at Pontefract (1m2f, good), looks as though an extra 2f would serve her well.

Hector's Here17
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-5| J: Jason Hart| T: I Furtado| OR:  66
8/1
Hamilton (9.2f, good/firm) winner last year; looked still on the up in his only remaining 3yo start. Not really got going this year, needed the run last time at Doncaster (11.9f, good/firm), trip looking a little far, yet to convince in 2020.

Jupiter Roadt31
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-4| J: Aiden Smithies(7)| T: N Tinkler| OR:  65
66/1
Useful handicapper at his best but winless since joining this yard (tried over a variety of trips). Well held returning from wind surgery at Thirsk (1m4f, good) recently after eight months off finishing last of 12, work to do even off a reduced mark.

Fox Kasper16
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-3| J: Cam Hardie| T: T D Easterby| OR:  64

One of three for the stable, remains a fair maiden (0-5 for this yard), has struggled for consistency. Both efforts since returning have looked rather laboured over 1m/1m1f, handicapper looks to have him where he wants him for now, others preferred.

Into The Zonet26
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Nathan Evans| T: M & D Easterby| OR:  63
100/1
Lightly-raced for his age (looks to have had his problems), showed very little on his reappearance/stable debut at Redcar (1m, good), never really involved. Quickly eased in the weights, tongue-tie reapplied, needs to show more to support.

Motahassent13
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-2| J: D Nolan| T: D Carroll| OR:  63| D

Scored twice earlier in the year either side of a four-month break on AW (12.1f), turf (1m4f), took advantage of lower mark on second occasion. Hat-trick proved just beyond him last time at Haydock (10.2f, soft), should run well, mark will test him.

Age: 7|  Weight: 9-2| J: K Stott| T: L A Mullaney| OR:  63| D

Despite his name 0-10 (placed three times) around here (best turf form at Carlisle), already a winner this year at Wolverhampton (9,5f) off last winning mark (59). Hampered when last seen at Doncaster (1m, good/soft), record here leaves doubts.

Bollin Tedp32
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-0| J: Ella McCain(7)| T: T D Easterby| OR:  61| CD
33/1
Five-time C&D winner (none off a mark this high), produced a mixed bag of performances since his last C&D win (July 2019, off 58). No surprise that his best effort since came over C&D, needed run on return, hard to rule out around here.

Turned in his best performance for a while on reappearance at Doncaster (10.2f, good/firm), well positioned to do so (still finished behind Railport Dolly). Previous form for this yard left something to be desired, not guaranteed to progress.

Forecasts

Ideal Candy (16/5), Highwaygrey (5/1), Zihaam (6/1), Canasta (13/2), Hector's Here (8/1), Motahassen (10/1), Northern Lyte (12/1), Ventura Gold (14/1), Railport Dolly (14/1), Fox Kasper (22/1), Beverley Bullet (28/1), Thorntoun Care (28/1), Bollin Ted (33/1), Jamih (66/1), Jupiter Road (66/1), Into The Zone (100/1)

Verdict

Even with five C&D winners in the field none of the runners really stands out with some of the course specialists facing a difficult task from a wide draw. Both Northern Lyte (better than finishing position around here of late) and Zihaam (always deserves respect at this venue) aren’t helped by their stalls positions. Ideal Candy another with a very consistent record here may struggle to dominate this large field while Highwaygrey has a good draw a slow starting trait rather negates that positive. MOTAHASSEN is off a mark that will test him but does have a decent draw to work from and can go close along with another multiple C&D winner Bollin Ted.
  1. Motahassen
  2. Zihaam
  3. Ideal Candy
