Well beaten in an AW bumper at Newcastle (2m½f) in February, so it's difficult to envisage that this mare can make her presence felt in a maiden on the Flat; stablemate of Fulbeck Girl; look elsewhere.

Cost a mere 800gns (January 2020); soundly beaten at triple-figure odds on both starts to date (1m2f); low-grade handicapping awaits.

4/5
Found John Gosden-trained horses too strong at Ascot (Enemy) & Newcastle (Anastarsia) last season; made a solid start in handicap company when run down late (third) by the thriving Midnights Legacy at Haydock (1m2f, good/soft); sets the benchmark.
35,000gns foal; 48,000gns yearling; third foal from the 1m½f-1m2f winner Iridescence; half-brother to the Listed winner Raydiance; has undergone wind surgery prior to his racecourse debut.

100/1
Twice-raced Declaration Of War gelding; easy to back (33-1) when weakening tamely from the furlong pole at Thirsk (1m4f, good) 15 days ago; drop back in trip (to 1m2f) an obvious next step.

Horse silk
8/1
Dubawi colt (625,000gns vendor yearling) from the multiple Grp 1 winning mare Sky Lantern; brother to the 1m2f winner Gentile Bellini; disappointing if he can't play a reasonably prominent role on debut against this level of opposition.

13/8
Lope De Vega gelding (50,000gns yearling); connections must be delighted with his performances on the track thus far; was only beaten a short-head by Godolphin's Spectrum Of Light at Newmarket (1m2f, good) last month.

Horse silk
80/1
Lawman gelding (24,000gns yearling); has been unable to make his way out of the rear-division on either start to date (Newmarket & Leicester); appeals as the type to fare better with additional experience; best watched at this stage.

Horse silk
28/1
€7,000 yearling; tenth foal from a half-sister to the US Gr 1 winner Senure (1m2f-1m3f); half-sister to five winners, including Divine Night (6f) and Hallmark (1m5f Flat, 2m hurdle).

Horse silk

Bated Breath filly; absent since finishing seventh of 13 to HMS President at Newcastle (1m) last November; drawn widest of all in stall 14; others preferred.

Horse silk
150/1
£6,000 yearling; by Footstepsinthesand out of the 1m5f-1m6f winner Dazzling Light; half-sister to the 2m AW winner Dazzling Rock; stablemate of the less appealing Dirty Diana; should take plenty from this initial racecourse experience.

(6)
Horse silk
10/1
Galileo filly who fetched a whopping €2,000,000 as a yearling; sister to five winners, including Alice Springs (7f-1m, inc Grp 1); made only a modest start (fifth) on a sticky Tapeta surface at Newcastle (1m2½f) six weeks ago.
14
(10)
Horse silk
200/1
War Command filly; held up in rear, and soon struggling as the pace quickened on debut (20-1) at Beverley (1m2f, good) last month; no obvious reason as to why she'll be any more competitive here.

Forecasts

Crystal Pegasus (4/5), Sarvan (13/8), Noonday Gun (8/1), Luck On Sunday (10/1), Dragon Glass (28/1), Judgment Of Paris (40/1), Exhalation (40/1), Vitellio Scarpia (80/1), Dirty Diana (100/1), Momentsaftamidnite (100/1), Hajey (100/1), Minogue (150/1), Fulbeck Girl (150/1), Strict Order (200/1)

Verdict

Truthfully, CRYSTAL PEGASUS hasn't done anything wrong at all on the track to date, and he's probably a shade unfortunate to remain a maiden. Therefore, off the back of a solid return to action (in a Class 4 handicap) at Haydock last month, the majority of punters and form analysts will surely be loath to oppose this 89-rated Australia colt. Of the remainder, Sarvan has shown the most (at Newmarket), Noonday Gun is a noteworthy newcomer for Richard Hannon, while the €2,000,000 Galileo filly Luck On Sunday deserves a 'free-pass' for a relatively tame opening effort on a sticky Tapeta surface at Newcastle.
  1. Crystal Pegasus
  2. Sarvan
  3. Noonday Gun
