Yet to add to tally since victory on debut start but usually runs with credit. Last seen finishing 5L second in 6f Newmarket handicap but this looks easier and goes off the same mark. Leading claims.
Has typically run well here in the past, with last victory coming over C&D in September. Not as good since however and needs to find more after latest 10L defeat at Haydock (5f) in June.
C&D winner in the past but yet to add to tally since rattling off a hat-trick in early 2018. Showed he's in good heart when second of nine at Doncaster (5f, good to firm) last time out and only up 2lb for that effort. Shortlisted.
Dual winner over 6f at this venue in the past and ran best race off revised mark when third in 6f Newcastle handicap last month. Place claims on that form but trip may be on the sharp side.
Used to go well fresh and has a fair 2019 but not hit the same heights recently, including 7L defeat on seasonal bow at Haydock (5f, good) last month. Now 5lb below last winning mark which is appealing but looks the stable's second string.
Usually excels at this distance but not won for over a year now. Looked in need of the effort when weakening eighth at Kempton (5f) in June, but now back on last winning mark, which makes some appeal.
Struck over C&D earlier this year but held off higher marks since, including 4L sixth in 5f Doncaster handicap six days ago. Quick turnaround but eased to last winning mark. Not to be discounted.
Group 3 winner in his pomp and looks revived since switching to this handler's care. Broke losing duck with game victory at Lingfield (5f) last month but raised 5lb since. In form but handicapper is taking no chances.
Excelled on this type of surface at Newcastle during the winter but not as good on the turf since. Beaten 13L at Pontefract (6f, good) on latest start and AW mark remains steep. Others preferred.
Progressive sort on the AW during the winter and not stopped despite being winless in last two starts. Not beaten far at Lingfield (6f) five days ago but has a 2lb rise to contend with in this. Of some interest back down in distance.
Forecasts
Magic J (15/8), Savalas (4/1), Wild Edric (9/2), Tabaahy (13/2), Just Glamorous (10/1), Canford Bay (16/1), Just That Lord (18/1), The Daley Express (20/1), Jumira Bridge (33/1), Another Angel (66/1)
A cracking opening contest in which plenty could stake claims, it may be worth taking a chance on SAVALAS to break his long-standing duck. The five-year-old has contested some strong handicaps in the past and has run well off his increased mark before, this looks like amore suitable contest for a horse who typically runs his race. Magic J remains the least exposed in the field and showed promise in a deep handicap at Newmarket last time and has the leading jockey booked, while both Just Glamorous and Wild Edric have shown glimpses of revivals respectively but aren't being given a chance by the handicapper. Just That Lord and Canford Bay can't be ignored given they are back on winning marks.
- Savalas
- Magic J
- Canford Bay
