Useful if wayward hurdler for Dan Skelton; made a quite taking return to the Flat after 11 months off when winning at Thirsk (1m4f, good). Forged clear to score readily (first run back from wind op/stable debut), penalised, one to take seriously.
Three-time winner last year at around 1m6f (all on soft/heavy); shaped better than the bare result on recent return (1m4f, good), looked in need of the run. Will appreciate the return to further, still on a fair mark, drying ground not ideal.
Last win came over three years ago on the AW over 4f shorter in a maiden (never won in handicaps). Lightly-raced for this yard (last two starts over hurdles). 50-1 when last seen on the Flat at York, faded from 2f out, others appeal more.
Winning hurdler for this yard, still struggling to find his best form returned to the Flat for his last three starts. Only Flat win came over 1m four years ago, looked less than focused on his last starts (always in rear); case for others stronger.
Returned from a second wind surgery to score in a jumpers' bumper and two Fibresand Flat handicaps, the second one over 16.5f. Now has to prove himself back on turf off a 5lb higher mark in a better grade, work to do at this level.
Fair handicapper (on a good mark based on jumping form, fell when last seen in that sphere over fences); usually a front-runner. Not seen on the Flat since finishing third of four at Catterick last August (15.9f, soft), may face competition for lead.
Yard in good form, useful maiden but has yet to show his true potential' well-backed last time (looked awkward, ran wide/freely) at Kempton (1m4f, slow). Should be suited by this trip (not tried at it yet), may be worth another chance back on turf.
Stable debut (one of two runners in the race for the trainer); fair handicapper in the past for Seamus Durack. Winner at 1m6f, looked a rather dubious stayer over 2m when last seen on AW, long absence to overcome, has looked to have some quirks.
Scored in a Newcastle jumpers' bumper when last seen (16.3f, slow) bouncing back from two heavy hurdles defeats. Had been in a real improver over hurdles prior to that (won four in a row), well handicapped in this sphere on hurdles form.
Dual handicap hurdles scorer in late-2019, not seen since scoring at Doncaster (19.4f, soft) looking an improved performer. Fair Flat handicapper, good second in October at Nottingham (1m6f, soft) to a winner on a roll, 2lb higher here.
Given a real chance by the handicapper (19lb lower now than his last AW mark) but failed to take advantage of a reduced mark last time when given a turf outing over 1m2f. Probably just not as good on turf, doubts about this trip, others preferred.
Offered very little when returning from five months off earlier in the year in three events AW Newcastle races over shorter trips. Had the run of the race last time but still achieved little, doubts about the trip make her an unappealing proposition.
Back on his last winning Flat mark but there qualms as to whether he can still run to that mark on his second run back from wind surgery. Easy to back on a recent return at Kempton (1m4f, slow); may have needed the run, has looked ungenuine.

A competitive opener to the ten-race card and much of the focus will fall on Solo Saxophone who returned from a wind op to win first-time out for Ben Haslam at Thirsk over 4f shorter and is still nicely weighted even with his penalty. However he faces a couple of well handicapped sort here based on their jumping form in Roar and SNOOKERED. The first-named of that duo shaped well last time at Sandown but may just be stretched by this trip on the Flat despite being on a good mark. On the other hand the latter of the pair developed well over jumps last season before being rather highly tried and a return to the Flat could see him return to winning form.
