6f winner last season who was tried at higher levels before good 2L fifth in 6f Catterick handicap and the end of last season. Dropped 1lb for seasonal reappearance but still could be in the grip of the handicapper.
Found a level of consistency throughout his career and very nearly rewarded for that with neck defeat at Newcastle (7f) earlier this month. 2lb rise suggests handicapper is taking no risks but no reason why he can't improve again.
Useful handicapper for Julie Camacho and eighth in good C&D handicap here last summer. Not a bad effort when 7L ninth at Newcastle (6f) this month and may be on a revival.
Classy sort in the past and found consistent form recently, including smart third in 5f Chelmsford handicap on stable debut. Off the same mark and looks dangerously placed.
5f Wolverhampton handicap winner over the winter period and performed with credit off higher marks since. Beaten 1L in 5f Newcastle handicap when last seen and doesn't need much to go close.
Ran okay without troubling the judge much last season and put poorest performance in last time out when 7L 15th in 6f Doncaster handicap. Is getting some respite from the handicapper though and tends to run well fresh. Considered.
Dual winner in similar contests last summer but found wanting off higher marks since, including 9L lat of 11 at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) this month. Eased 3lb but needs a turnaround.
C&D winner in the past, including in strong handicap last summer, and fared better than result suggested when 4L eighth at Newcastle (5f) this month. 6lb worse off on turf however but place claims.
A very classy juvenile in 2016 but form in Ireland has dipped greatly since. Beaten 5L on British/stable debut at Chelmsford (6f) 12 days ago, but trainer is shrewd with these sorts and could have the scope to improve.
Form can vary between each race and put up good performance last time out when beaten only 2L in 6f Newcastle handicap in December. Not seen since and comes with risk warning, Best watched in this contest.
Tends to run solid races with cut in the ground, including three placed efforts in this company at the end of last season. Shaped well enough when 5L ninth on seasonal debut at Newcastle (5f) last time. Slightly more needed.
Forecasts
Fortamour (10/3), Abel Handy (7/2), Bossipop (9/2), Dalton (7/1), Medicine Jack (9/1), The Armed Man (12/1), Zumurud (16/1), Jewel Maker (20/1), Canford Bay (22/1), East Street Revue (25/1), Firmdecisions (33/1)
A strong-enough division of this race which puts reviving horses up against unexposed ones, preference is for the latter in FORTAMOUR to get another win on the board. The four-year-old showed no signs of his progression curving when second last time out and a replication of that effort would set the clear form standard. Abel Handy showed sparks last time out and the switch to this powerful yard could see more to come from him again, while the likes of Canford Bay, Bossipop and Medicine Jack all suggested that an improvement may occur based on their seasonal return efforts.
- Fortamour
- Abel Handy
- Canford Bay
