Bumper winner at Ascot (25-1, fourth start in that sphere); failed to take to hurdles on debut (jumped poorly). Looked more at home on Flat/AW debut (1m4f, standard) at Lingfield staying on well to catch the favourite close home; faces stiffer task.
Stood out in terms of pedigree/stable on his debut at Newcastle (1m, slow), started odds-on favourite (justified those odds in workmanlike style). Given his pedigree no surprise to see him stepped up in trip, penalised but likely to progress further.
This will be just his third start (already with his third different trainer); two modest runs last year at 1m4f on AW/turf (well held both times). Now makes debut for another new yard, has always looked one for the longer term, still needs time.
Flat debut having run had just one run in a bumper (well found in the market; 4-1); wore hood (retained), looked badly in need of the experience (finished well held). Makes some appeal on pedigree, in good hands but others offer more.
Modest Flat maiden (0-27) at various distances who has been placed but generally faces a stiff task in these sort of events. Better form of late in handicaps (has more chance in that sphere), front-runner, unlikely to trouble the principals.
Well held in bumpers (never finished better than fifth) with her hurdling form showing no improvement on those modest previous outings. Flat debut; hard to fashion a case for her on what she has show so far in the jumping sphere.
Newcomer by Iffraaj, gelded for debut, 17,000gns yearling; third foal, dam 5f winner, half-sister to 7f Listed winner Nufoos. The fact that he wears blinkers for his debut signals a note of warning, watching brief advised.
Edged out on his debut by one with more experience at Wolverhampton (9.5f, slow), still a useful effort (form not really tested). Only beaten a nose, open to further improvement, looks capable of winning races upped in trip on a different surface.
Exceed And Excel colt, newcomer, already had a wind op (tongue-tie on for debut). First foal, dam Listed-placed 1m/1m1f winner. Gives the 3yo contingent in the race further depth, would need to be useful to win this first-time up, note in market.
One of two that the stable run in this (both minimal chances); 200-1 on his Kempton debut (1m4f, slow). Always well behind on that occasion, finished well held, hard to see him making much of an impression in this sphere.

With the John Gosden team going so well since the resumption of racing it’s hard to ignore his east Newcastle winner Yuri Gagarin, the 4yo dispatching his rivals with consummate ease on that occasion. He’s penalised here but expected to appreciate the extra stamina test. He does have to give weight to a couple of useful 3yo’s though with Prince Imperial looking to continue his upward curve switched to the AW last October, he to will enjoy this trip. However the experience gained by CITYZEN SERG at Wolverhampton will have brought him on, just touched off there he could take advantage of the weight he receives here from his two main rivals to open his account.
- Cityzen Serg
- Yuri Gagarin
- Prince Imperial
