Mudlark who has won four times from 6f-1m1f, including around this time last year at Hamilton, when 2lb higher. Significantly below that level on most starts since, but drop in grade opens the door again here if he is ready on his reappearance.
Sole win came in a Naas maiden (6f, yielding; fifth start) when with Ger Lyons in 2018. Form tailed off after a promising start last year. Changed hands for €10,000 since last seen and if freshened for that, could go well (stays 7½f on soft).
Triple turf winner on soft ground who stays 1m. 1lb higher than her last AW success and returned with a respectable third at Haydock on Sunday (1m, good to soft) from this mark. More needed, but makes the short-list.
Dual fast ground winner (5f/7f; stays 1m½f). 1lb higher than his most recent success at Catterick last September, acts on soft ground, and if ready after a break he should be competitive, though his record when fresh tempers enthusiasm somewhat.
His two turf wins both came over Hamilton's 1m½f in 2018, one of them on soft ground and when 2lb higher. Has had plenty of chances since, winning twice on AW, but is on a 17-race losing run on turf. Bit to prove.
Triple course winner, one over this trip and two over an extra furlong, including on good to soft. 2lb lower than the most recent of those (came under 7lb claimer), goes well fresh and looks a big player from the inside draw.
Debut win at Newbury (7f, good) in 2018 for Brian Meehan remains his only one to date. Joined this trainer prior to his latest effort at Newcastle in March, when well held. On a very workable mark based on his best efforts. Interesting.
Won two of his first five starts in 2017, when with Richard Hannon, but is now on a 23-race losing run. Occasionally produces a very competitive effort, but doesn't look one to rely on and would be a surprise winner.
Won a Wetherby novice event (7f, good to soft) on his second start 13-months ago, when always prominent. Not far off that form when last seen at Newcastle (1m, AW) in October. Same mark here and not ruled out.
Scored here over 1m½f last summer, and added another win at Musselburgh (1m, good to soft) in September, when 1lb lower than today. Off the boil since, but far from written off back here from this mark.
Improved over her first four starts to win a fillies' handicap at Kempton (7f, AW) last October, when 2lb lower, for Owen Burrows. Disappointed when favourite next time, and since changed hands for 27,000gns. Not ruled out on stable debut.
Triple sprint winner in 2018, twice when there was some cut. Has yet to convince he gets this sort of trip, however, and others look to have stronger claims.
Forecasts
Tangled (4/1), Dancing Rave (9/2), Stringybark Creek (11/2), Stoney Lane (9/1), Woodside Wonder (9/1), How Bizarre (11/1), Dawaaween (12/1), Erich Bloch (14/1), Vive La Difference (14/1), Athmad (20/1), Airglow (20/1), Ghalib (33/1)
An interesting contest of its type. Ghalib would be very interesting if supported now dropping in grade, while Dawaaween, Stoney Lane, Erich Bloch and Dancing Rave can all have cases made. Athmad could begin to revive after a change of scenery and from a workable mark. However, the one for today could be course specialist STRINGYBARK CREEK, who has plenty going for him.
- Stringybark Creek
- Athmad
- Dancing Rave
