Juvenile winner on debut at Newmarket (caused a 50-1 surprise); matched that form without winning in two subsequent starts before failing on handicap debut (looked to need the run). Needs to bounce back against a few that lurk on better marks.
Course winner (6f) on debut; handicap newcomer for a yard that do well at this venue (took first two races on Monday). Ran no sort of race when tried in Listed company on only other start at Newmarket; more realistic chance in this sphere.
Failed to follow up what was quite a taking performance at Ayr in a first-time tongue-tie (6f, good) when well beaten at Catterick over the same trip. Gelded over the winter he now steps up to7f for the first time making his handicap debut.
Cheap purchase who still managed to make a winning 2yo debut on Polytrack over 7f winning in good style. Failed to concede a penalty subsequently but not disgraced including when last seen over 1m; now back at 7f for his handicap debut.
Improving filly who has made a good start to life in handicaps (2-2 so far) having won at the two GB Tapeta tracks over 6f/7f. Had the run of the race both times, now switches to turf for the first time (up 6lb), stable certainly going great guns.
Stable/handicap debut (left Jedd O'Keeffe); showed promise in all his 2yo starts at up to 7f, travels strongly through his races. Ought to be suited by this track/trip (has turf experience); mark looks fine, stable are a little below-par though.
Handicap debutante (only had a couple of starts), looked a little sharper than the usual 2yo from this yard on debut over 6f at Newcastle. Disappointing favourite when last seen over same C&D (failed to settle); interesting up in trip now.
Split a couple of next time out winners over 7f at Kempton on third start; ran far better than the bare form suggests on her nursery debut over the same C&D (suffered interference). Hood added, dropped 1lb, of interest if she's ready off an absence.
One of three that have only had two runs prior to making their handicap debuts; left initial run behind when switched to turf (7f, heavy) at Doncaster. Held off all bar a promising newcomer on that occasion; sort to make a nice 3yo handicapper.
Produced an assured debut over 6f as a 2yo but finished off the season with a below-par run in a competitive/valuable sales event at Doncaster. Makes his handicap debut having had time to recover; looks to have a little to find off this mark.
One of the more experienced who improved gradually scoring at the fifth attempt on his second handicap start over this trip at Brighton (has tried 1m). Enjoyed the softer surface on that occasion; up 6lb now, still enters calculations.
Fair maiden who knocked on the door last year taking the runner-up slot on four occasions. Cheekpieces worn for last three starts are now removed, had more chances than most of these, looks vulnerable up to 7f for the first time to any improvers.
Forecasts
Glen Force (11/4), Skontonovski (6/1), Beauty Choice (15/2), Mountain Brave (8/1), Eevilynn Drew (17/2), Brookside Banner (10/1), More Than A Prince (14/1), Where's Mick (16/1), Dick Datchery (16/1), Dancinginthewoods (18/1), Sermon (18/1), Breath Of Joy (33/1)
A highly competitive 3yo handicap that is bound to house a few that are ahead of their marks and will improve this year. MOUNTAIN BRAVE representing the in-form Johnston team has already shown some progressive form this year on the AW and despite climbing the handicap still looks to have some further scope. Glen Force is one of the twice-raced brigade that it could be hard for the handicapper to get a handle on and it will be no surprise to see him run well along with another one of that ilk Beauty Choice. Breath Of Joy looks better than she’s been able to show so far and the first-time hood may induce some more progress. Brighton winner More Than A Prince is also respected.
- Mountain Brave
- Beauty Choice
- Glen Force
