Three-time turf winner at 5f-6f but has yet to excel in four starts on artificial surfaces. Drops in grade on return and handicapper has given him a chance.
Most recent win came on turf at Epsom (5f, good; 5-1) last summer off a mark of 82, also goes well on the AW and one to note here having had wind surgery since last spotted.
Four-time winner, including twice on AW, over 5f-6f including on debut for this yard at Wolverhampton in October. Not as good either start subsequently but capable fresh so warrants some thought.
Won a Class 2 spring at Chester (5f, good; 9-2) in May 2018 but winless since and 0-4 previously on AW tracks. Mark is dropping however and should get competitive as such.
Scored over this trip at Lingfield in February after a layoff, not as good next time at Southwell when racing a bit too keenly. Still on a workable mark if he brings his best stuff.
Has been hit and miss since winning over 6f at Dundalk for Richard Fahey early last year, best run of three for this yard came at Newcastle over 5f in February. Chance on that evidence having dropped 1lb since.
Frontrunner won three times on turf last year, latest off a mark of 77 in August. Needs a bit more to defy current rating but should give his running.
All the way winner here in October from 4lb lower mark but well held both starts afterwards. Will find it hard to dictate in this line-up.
C&D novice winner in 2018 but only one success since, coming at Chester (6f, good to soft) last May. Handicapper has offered some leeway with 2lb easing now.
Dual winner last year, including on AW at Wolverhampton, and continued to run well in defeat thereafter. Has gone well off a break before and fairly handicapped for this task.
Forecasts
Grandfather Tom (11/2), Benny And The Jets (6/1), Mercenary Rose (6/1), Amplify (6/1), Spoof (7/1), Lihou (15/2), Just That Lord (8/1), Jack The Truth (11/1), Charming Kid (16/1), Helvetian (22/1)
Grandfather Tom enjoyed a productive time of it in 2019, winning three times and should give a bold sight if getting out alertly and leading the field. He goes well fresh but so, too, does BENNY AND THE JETS. He's only been out of the money once in six starts on the AW and drops in class here while he's also been given some relief by the assessor on his first run since December. Just That Lord, Charming Kid and Jack The Truth are others that need some thought in a competitive heat.
- Benny And The Jets
- Grandfather Tom
- Just That Lord
