Consistent sort on turf who won a competitive handicap at Newmarket back in 2018. Missed all of 2019 though and while he's back on that last winning mark, he's yet to show the same level of form on AW.
Course winner here in June and followed up in a competitive handicap at York next time out. Inconsistent subsequently and must improve on debut for new yard.
Hasn't won since 2016 but managed to show he retained some ability when only beaten 1L at Kempton in November. Out of his depth here last time and hard to fancy given his overall profile.
A three-time winner at Dundalk over this trip in 2017/18 and not disgraced in the Vase here behind Cosmelli in 2018. Hasn't really taken to hurdles subsequently and has enough questions to answer for now.
Dual bumper winner who gained a first Flat success at Haydock in August having held his form well prior to that. Up 10lb but there's a chance he could take to this surface on AW debut on pedigree.
Former Godolphin runner and already a dual C&D winner for this yard. Career best when bolting up here last time and while this is a stronger race, a 7lb rise looks entirely fair. Unexposed and should go well.
Gained a first AW success when landing a four-runner Southwell event in November but struggled back in handicaps on his two subsequent starts. Has something to prove from this mark.
Progressive prior to the end of last season when losing her way a little. While 12lb higher than her last winning mark, she's still fairly lightly raced and she gave a good account when only beaten a neck on last year's reappearance.
Has won four of his 12 starts but not seen since finishing tailed off at Haydock in 2018 and more than likely to need this return run on debut for new yard.
C&D winner (odds on) for a novice event on his third start. Hasn't looked straightforward since and disappointed at Chelmsford when a tailed off favourite last time. Gelded since and still lightly raced so not one to write off given his connections.
Improving with each start and got off the mark at Kempton in September when winning a novice event. Showed a nice turn of foot that day and while this is plenty tougher on handicap debut, he's respected with progress on the cards.
Vase winner here in 2018 from a 6lb higher mark and gained a first win since at Chelmsford in February. Some time since he showed his best form at this trip though and has a poor record fresh.
Forecasts
Alignak (5/2), Good Tidings (5/2), Ice Pyramid (5/1), December Second (13/2), Makawee (12/1), Bo Samraan (14/1), Anythingtoday (25/1), To Be Wild (28/1), Cosmelli (33/1), Financial Conduct (40/1), Star Of The East (66/1), Bolder Bob (125/1)
Philip Kirby has two fascinating runners in here, most notably the well bred ICE PYRAMID who has had the form of his latest course and distance success franked in good fashion. Stablemate December Second could be an each-way player if he takes to all-weather. Sir Michael Stoute sends Alignak up north after his impressive demolition job at Kempton last time and Makawee is another threat to the selection if she takes to racing on an artificial surface.
- Ice Pyramid
- Makawee
- December Second
