Veteran without a win since 2016; recent form does not suggest he is about to get back to winning ways but he did win this race back in 2016 when sent off a long odds-on favourite.

Failed to complete either the Irish or British Grand National last term and is generally bereft of any form in a number of dour efforts since October; on the plus side, he won this race last season and the stable has won it for the past four years.

Useful staying handicap chaser at his best, but has been in a few dogfights, and he seems to have lost his way as a result; respected though, given weakness of line-up and stable record in this race.

Has had two runs at Leopardstown recently but failed to perform in either; step up in trip is a huge plus and would not need to improve too much to play a leading role.

Left Gordon Elliott after struggling in a number of races since scoring at Perth in July; may just need this outing after a long break but not totally out of it on the best of his form.

Verdict

Gordon Elliot has won this contest four times out of the last five renewals and there looks to be little between the nine-year-olds Jury Duty and Monbeg Notorious. The former won this race after a long absence last season but his recent form has been poor and it is difficult to make a strong case for him. The latter is also out of form suggesting it might pay to side with MOONSHINE BAY who has warmed up for this contest with two efforts at Leopardstown over inadequate trips and will really appreciate every yard of this 3m2f trip.
  1. Moonshine Bay
  2. Jury Duty
  3. Monbeg Notorious
