Got off the mark at the third time of asking in handicaps when only just holding on at Lingfield (1m2f; standard). Up 4lb but further progress looks likely, though he is 4lb worse off with Visibility which also makes things interesting.
Vulnerable to less exposed rivals and although he won over slightly shorter here at the start of the year, he has finished last in a pair of three-runner events the last twice. Drops in class but this is ultra competitive.
Thereabouts in a three of his runs in novice company, and achieved smart form when third to the unbeaten Godolphin-owned Al Maysan at Newcastle (1m; standard) most recently. Now makes handicap debut, & dangerous to write off if allowed to dominate.
Has produced a solid pair of efforts in second the last twice, in particular when runner-up to potentially useful Maori Knight at Chelmsford (1m; standard) last month. Now makes handicap debut, and he could well make a winning transition.
Not been beaten far in defeat on either of his two handicap starts this year. Looks a matter of time until he sheds his maiden tag, and he has to be considered a big player off an unchanged mark if taking a step forward.
Looks to have got the hang of things now, and followed-up breakthrough win over 7f here on his penultimate start with a solid effort in defeat next time out. Runs here off an unchanged mark, and stable are currently operating at a 33% strike-rate.
Yet to kick on in handicaps up to now, but wasn't disgraced despite finishing fifth of six at Chelmsford (1m; standard) last time out. Hard to assess the strength of that race so he needs to do more off a 2lb lower mark though.
Stepped up on previous showings when third on handicap debut over slightly shorter at this track between Christmas and New Year. Eased in grade, and has solid claims given the strength of that form.
Minimal ability shown in three career starts so far. Has raced exclusively over 1m at Newcastle, and was beaten a fairly long way when last seen so has a lot to prove on handicap debut.
Posted a promising effort on handicap debut two starts back, but failed to match that level of form when well-beaten at Deauville (1m1f; standard) in 'claiming' company. Place claims if able to return to form back on these shores.
Forecasts
Glorious Caesar (3/1), Night Voyager (9/2), Visibility (5/1), Breguet Boy (7/1), Richard R H B (7/1), Beechwood Jim Bob (9/1), Lexington Warfare (10/1), Fleet Street (20/1), Blue Slate (40/1), Mick (50/1)
A whole host of potential improvers in the line-up, and one of them is the selection in the shape of NIGHT VOYAGER. He achieved smart form when bumping into the well-backed Maori Knight most recently, and he should appreciate the switch to handicaps off a mark which should prove manageable. The main danger looks to be Lexington Warfare who hasn't been seen for 76 days since finishing third at this track in a higher grade last time out. If he can reproduce that level of form he is a huge player. As for the remainder, Glorious Caesar is taken to confirm the form with Visbility from last time out and keep progressing given that was a career-best effort.
- Night Voyager
- Glorious Caesar
- Lexington Warfare
