All three jumps wins attained at Downpatrick so far, twice over timber and a handicap over fences last summer; well held in three runs for this trainer including when pulled up at Hexham in December over sticks.
Only had 12 starts but yet to add to 2018 chase win at Hexham over 2m on soft ground; likely non-stayer at Perth (3m, heavy) in August when last sighted. Has gone well fresh in the past so worth a look.
Had been running in point-to-points prior December's pulled-up effort around Southwell, failed to beat a rival home at Newcastle (2m6f, soft) last month and hard to make case for.
Narrow winner at Kelso (2m, heavy; 12-1) in January having undergone wind surgery; not able to back that up 16 days later at Newcastle however and isn't one to trust implicitly.
Best effort (from 11) over hurdles when close second over 2m1f (soft; 15-8f) last time; looking like he'd have got up with an extra few yards to run. One to consider over this trip on the back of that pleasing effort.
His sole success came at Hexham four runs ago. He hit the frame on his latest appearance at Newcastle (2m6f) when he was third of nine runners. Has been eased 2lb in the weights. Will need to improve again to be successful in this race.
Bumper winner in 2017 but impact over jumps is very modest so far; shaped better when third of seven (2m1f, soft; 17-2) here last month but requires more to get on the board.
Of limited ability over hurdles so far and best form has come on good ground; that said, didn't run badly last month over fences at Leicester (2m, heavy) and interesting if building on that back over the smaller obstacles.
Forecasts
Barnay (11/4), The Pine Martin (11/4), Gold Fields (9/2), Emissaire (6/1), Echo Express (8/1), Southeast Rose (10/1), Court Dismissed (40/1), Muroor (50/1)
His second here last time was in a stronger grade and BARNAY looked like he might have re-rallied to get the verdict if having this extra yardage to do so. He's taken to go one better now. Echo Express is proven when fresh and edges out Gold Fields as next best, the latter having run a better race over fences last time at Leicester.
- Barnay
- Echo Express
- Gold Fields
