Hasn't raced on the AW (2-2) for fast approaching two years (beat the John Gosden-trained Samharry in a 1m novice here); kicked off last season with an excellent fourth in the Class 2 Spring Mile at Doncaster; now rated 9lb lower.

Enjoyed a stellar season on the AW last winter, rising 40lb in the weights for seven wins (unfortunate not to be a few more); folded tamely on his return to action (finished last of six) at Chelmsford (1m) early in the New Year.

Has rediscovered a spark in recent weeks and continues in a fine run of form (steadily climbing back up the weights); pressed the shock winner Intrepidly all the way to the line when runner-up (beaten fav) at Kempton (1m) 15 days ago.

Lightly raced filly; left the care of Amanda Perrett for 115,000gns in December 2019; absent since readily landing a four-runner Cl 4 fillies' handicap at Doncaster (7f, gd/fm) last July; 6lb higher sporting a newly-applied hood.

Modest AW strike-rate (1-15); that said, shaped encouragingly at Wolverhampton (7f) latest and is now rated 8lb lower than when finishing a close second to Keyser Soze in a valuable Cl 2 C&D handicap last February.

Finished strongly when going down in a three-way photo to My Target here (1m) back in November; more moderate under varying tactics (has led) since; has work to do with Fortamour on recent form lines.

Yet to visit Newcastle but clearly effective across the UK AW portfolio (4-16), including on Tapeta at Wolverhampton; 3lb higher than when beating Hart Stopper (form rock-solid) by 1L at Kempton (6f) last month; stays 7f and more.

Broke the maiden (stable debut) when beating Ravenscar (runs earlier) by a head over the straight mile here in early October; more laboured on his return to action/handicap debut here 12 days ago.

Five-time course winner (C&D x3); has flashed home from the rear on his last couple of starts (7f-1m), including when fourth to Kind Review here (Cl 5) 16 days ago; tough task, but shouldn't ever be discounted in haste at Gosforth Park.

Forecasts

Candelisa (7/2), Fortamour (4/1), Little Jo (5/1), Gallipoli (11/2), Inhale (11/2), Los Camachos (11/2), Dawaaleeb (6/1), Insurplus (7/1), Lion Hearted (16/1), Woodside Wonder (16/1), Aegeus (28/1)

Verdict

Strong numerically and equally so in terms of competitiveness. Candelisa continues in positive form while a case can also be made from a handicapping perspective for Dawaaleeb (2-2 AW) and Gallipoli. Unlike Jim Goldie's standing-dish Insurplus, Jim Gallagher's Los Camachos is yet to race at Newcastle. However, he is effective on Tapeta and his recent 6f Kempton win appeals as rock-solid form. Nevertheless, we'll elect to side with the progressive four-year-old's Fortamour and INHALE. The former has C&D experience but the latter arguably more potential. She is the sole mount of Hayley Turner (3-13; 23% at Newcastle (AW)) on today's card.
