Dual C&D winner who was in the winners enclosure here as recent as January. However, she is difficult to make a case for after finishing last of 10 over C&D at the start of the month when four-length behind Upstage.
Eased in grade on his return from a short break after not being disgraced in fourth at Southwell (6f; standard) in December. Form of the yard is a major positive (4-9 in last 14 days), and he could play a part.
Yet to win in seven starts, and may need this seasonal reappearance. However, she has placed form over C&D, and was compiling a consistent record in handicaps before the end of last season. Likely to be thereabouts, and market may be informative.
Showed more encouraging signs when third at Newcastle (5f; standard) earlier this month. Stayed on as though the step back up to 6f would be well within her reach, and she holds solid place claims after being dropped another 1lb in the weights.
Stepped up on previous form in maiden/novice company to finish runner-up at Lingfield (6f; standard) on handicap debut last week. Has to be considered a major player off an unchanged mark with stable going well (5-23 in last 14 days).
Yard are going well, but it would be fair to say this well-bred sort has been particularly disappointing in her six-race career so far. Needs to bounce back a poor recent effort at Chelmsford (7f; standard) where she failed to beat a single rival.
Drops back in trip after making a quiet start to life in handicaps when a distant fourth of six at Lingfield (7f; standard) at the start of the month. Dropped a couple of lb for that, but must show a fair bit more.
Dropped 10lbs for suffering a pair of heavy defeats since switched to this sphere back in October. Now makes seasonal return off a basement mark as he drops back to 6f for the first time. Others look far more convincing.
Forecasts
Rathagan (11/4), Almqvist (10/3), Rodney Le Roc (7/2), You Don't Own Me (6/1), Sparkling Diamond (9/1), Feel Good Factor (10/1), Upstage (28/1), Gifted Dreamer (33/1)
Given the sparkling form of the yard at present, Rathagan must enter calculations on his return from a 69-day break. He has been running in a slightly higher grade since switched to handicaps without being disgraced and should have a leading role to play. After taking a step back in the right direction over 5f last time, Feel Good Factor is another one who can be given a chance, as can Sparkling Diamond, though there are small concerns about her fitness. Thus, preference is for ALMQVIST who can build upon a very promising handicap debut when runner-up at Lingfield just nine days ago. She is turned out quickly again but that isn't a worry coming from this source.
- Almqvist
- Feel Good Factor
- Rathagan
