Landed a sizeable gamble when breaking the maiden at the 18th attempt in a selling hurdle at Fakenham (2m, soft) last week; this race represents a much sterner test; thought far from guaranteed to back-up that improved effort.
Eight-race maiden; knocking at the door over fences in recent starts; finished 13½L third of five to the well-handicapped Dunly here (2m½f, soft) 32 days ago; others more pacy.
Won on the Flat for David Simcock at Goodwood (1m, good) in August 2017; well beaten in two attempts over hurdles for Barbara Butterworth (off a lengthy absence); switches back to the Flat for another trainer.

Lowly-rated on the Flat (1-25); wouldn't have been suited by dropping right back in trip (to 1m) here four weeks ago, but in truth simply can't be the advice.

Runner-up in a Sedgefield bumper (2m1f, good) in May 2019; hasn't progressed over hurdles (0-4), including when well beaten on his New Year's Day handicap debut at Musselburgh; trainer/owner among the winners at Musselburgh (Tues).

Won four on the spin over hurdles (2m-2m4f) between September and December 2019; has failed to make the grade in stronger races since (from an elevated mark); this is a shrewd piece of placing; ought to take all of the beating.

A standing dish over 1m4f in the early days of AW racing at Newcastle (2016); has had issues since then (including burst blood vessels); wasn't beaten at all far when placed over 2m at Southwell in November.

Win record of 1-27; was with Lawrence Mullaney when beaten by a rallying nose over C&D in April 2019 (joined Karen McLintock for £12,000); returns to action following a couple of non-completions over hurdles.

Maiden (0-11); has failed to complete in her last three starts over hurdles (UPP) and can only be expected to struggle; look elsewhere confidently.

Has shown no worthwhile form (0-4); could improve once sent handicapping at a realistic level (low grade) but holds no conceivable chance in this contest.

Won twice on the Flat at Musselburgh (1m4f-1m5f) in the concluding weeks of the turf season and has shaped encouragingly over hurdles since (runner-up to Royal Cosmic latest); makes appeal as one of the likelier candidates.

Weakened quickly once headed (pulled-up) on handicap debut at Catterick (2m3½f, soft) three weeks ago; sports first-time cheekpieces with stable jockey Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle.

Kept busy since joining Rebecca Menzies; made most until the furlong pole when headed in a 1m4f Class 5 handicap here on Wednesday (finished fourth); stablemate of Tabou Beach Boy.

Forecasts

Snookered (6/5), Smart Lass (9/4), Tabou Beach Boy (5/1), The Resdev Way (12/1), Major Snugfit (14/1), Fort De L'Ocean (14/1), Raymond (20/1), Gabriel Oak (33/1), Urban Spirit (40/1), Cryogenics (40/1), Irish Minister (100/1), Ibn Al Emarat (150/1), Oliver's Betty (250/1), Jo Cashflow (250/1)

Verdict

Unsurprisingly SNOOKERED found the company too hot to handle in the Grade 2 Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle (Haydock) last month, but his trainer Brian Ellison has identified a more suitable opportunity for his 138-rated hurdler. This Born To Sea gelding rose swiftly through the ranks during the first half of the jumps' season winning four on the spin (2m-2m4f) and should hold all of the aces here against vastly inferior rivals (at level weights).
  1. Snookered
  2. Smart Lass
  3. Raymond
