£280,000 purchase as a 4yo after winning his sole point-to-point nine months before he repaid a small fraction of that purchase price when winning at Uttoxeter (2m, heavy). That form doesn't look particularly strong; capable of defying penalty.

Built on the promise he showed when placed in two Irish point-to-points when making a winning debut at Huntingdon in April 2019 (didn't look finished article). Well held when last seen on soft ground; returns from a break, work to do.

Ballybegg88
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: G Sheehan| T: W Greatrex
12/1
Newcomer from a stable who have a 19% strike-rate with this type since 2015. Failed to win in seven Irish point-to-points so not the most obvious sort to progress; best watched unless there are significant market vibes.

Failed to win in any of his six point-to-points and his second in a "point" bumper at Stratford on debut last month looks ordinary. Shaped well enough on debut for this yard last time; looks to need a test of stamina, others are given better chances.

Showed ability on his bumper debut in Ireland for his former yard and subsequently sold for £125,000 to current connections. Had wind surgery prior to his initial run for this yard, started favourite (ran out halfway); worth another chance.
6

150/1
Had an unhappy to start to his career when kicked at the start at Exeter (pulled up soon after). Better experience last time when finishing well held at Warwick; hard to fancy this time around.

Regaby
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: W T Kennedy| T: Ian Williams
28/1
Stable have a reasonable record with bumper newcomers and it could well be worth paying attention to any market moves. Second foal; dam unplaced bumpers/hurdles, half-sister to Listed-placed 7f AW 2yo winner Basaata.

Roussimoff
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: Thomas Dowson| T: T DavidsonWS
16/1
Bred for a stamina test judging by his pedigree; yard are 1-7 with bumper newcomers (winner was a well-backed one). Market vibes for this one are already strong and he's an interesting newcomer, had wind surgery prior to this.

Stable have won this twice in the last four years (once with a newcomer), yard a healthy 21% strike-rate with newcomers since 2015. €60,000 3yo, half-brother to bumper/useful 2m-2m5f hurdle winner Honest Vic; respected on debut.
€140,000 3yo, half-brother to four winners including the smart hurdler chaser Black Hercules. Shaped well on debut at Exeter (still rough around the edges), form franked by the win of the fourth, likely to come on from his debut.
11
Horse silk
33/1
Newcomer; half-sister to four winners including useful hurdler/chaser Presenting Arms. Makes her debut in what looks to be decent company; yard had a bumper newcomer run well (second) at Musselburgh yesterday; worth a second glance.
12
Horse silk
40/1
Shaped as if in need of the experience on his bumper debut at Newcastle where despite his Flat pedigree he looked short of pace. Rallied late on but he'll need to improve to take a hand here despite coming from a top Flat yard.
13
Horse silk
66/1
Debutante from a yard that are 0-25 with this type since 2015 and 0-43 with bumpers overall in that same timeframe. Dam 7f-1m2f winner who stayed 1m4f; hard to make a case based on the form of the yard in these events.
14
Horse silk
100/1
Cheap purchase considering her pedigree (cost £5,000 as a 3yo); hinted at some ability on her Newcastle AW debut. Shaped better than the distance (15L) than she was beaten (forced wide home turn); hood now added, progress needed.

Forecasts

Adrimel (6/5), The Edgar Wallace (3/1), Slap Dash Harry (9/1), Ballybegg (12/1), Flash De Touzaine (12/1), Roussimoff (16/1), Willie Butler (22/1), Daranova (28/1), Regaby (28/1), Brinkhill (33/1), Eternal Romantic (40/1), Phoenix Rise (66/1), Fleetwood Black (100/1), Funway Monarch (150/1)

Verdict

This looks to be a decent bumper with some decent form amongst those that have run along with some interesting newcomers. ADRIMEL beat little on his Uttoxeter debut but it was hard not to be impressed visually with his performance and his penalty may not stop him following up. The Edgar Wallace comes from an Exeter race that looks as though it will work out whilst Flash De Touzaine (favourite on his debut) gets the chance to atone for his mid-race misdemeanour. Tom George has a good record in this race and his Slap Dash Harry looks one of the more likely newcomers along with the already well backed Roussimoff from a yard that has to be respected when the market speaks.
  1. Adrimel
  2. Roussimoff
  3. The Edgar Wallace
