Has struggled to recapture the kind of form shown during the early weeks of the turf season (March & April 2019); low-key over 1m at Southwell six weeks ago; connections try a new trip seeking answers.
Veteran (14-60 career); landed a quickfire hat-trick over hurdles last summer (2m4f-2m6f, good); towards the rear throughout on his return to the track (50-1) over 2m here last month; others more obvious.
Three-time C&D winner; easy winner of a 1m4f seller at Lingfield on his penultimate start; caught in the final strides by 20-1 shot Star Talent in a C&D claimer a fortnight ago; must enter the reckoning from a similar mark.
Twice runner-up over hurdles for Dan Skelton (Ffos Las and Market Rasen) during the summer of 2019; has scarcely beaten a single rival in four starts on the Flat for Jo Tuite; look elsewhere for the solution.
Most proficient here at Wolverhampton (1m1½f & 1m4f course winner); off the track for 437-days since finishing second to Cry Wolf over C&D in November 2018 -stumbled at the furlong pole on that occasion; market can offer a guide.
C&D form figures of 1412; has risen steadily in the weights as a result of those consistent efforts; 1lb higher than when narrowly beaten by Ghost Serge here three weeks ago; the blinkers are applied tonight; figures highly on the shortlist.
2lb higher than when last successful at Kempton (1m3f) in January 2019; could strip fitter for his comeback run (33-1) at that venue five weeks ago; of more interest for place than win purposes.
Seven-race maiden (formerly in the care of Ed Dunlop); lowly rated (64) on debut for Tim Fitzgerald - a £7,500 purchase in November 2019; merits a cursory market check in the newly applied tongue-tie.
Snapped a lengthy losing sequence when picking off the front-running Tulane over C&D 19 days ago; title-seeking Ben Curtis takes the mount from a 3lb higher handicap mark; has recent history with Dream Magic.
Forecasts
Dream Magic (11/4), Hooflepuff (10/3), Global Express (9/2), Central City (15/2), My Brother Mike (9/1), Last Enchantment (10/1), Surrey Blaze (12/1), Tan Arabiq (16/1), Dovils Date (50/1)
The market may offer some potential clues with regards Tan Arabiq (returns to the track) and Global Express (tongue-tied on debut for a new yard) but unless a sustained market move develops for either horse, the likeliest candidates remain Last Enchantment, Dream Magic and HOOFLEPUFF. The selection has climbed the weights to a career-high mark following a string of consistent C&D efforts but may yet have more too offer in newly applied headgear.
- Hooflepuff
- Dream Magic
- Tan Arabiq
